I am interested in including an electric shunting engine in the HO scale of the Swiss SBB prototype, preferably one that is currently in operation. is there one from Marklin or another brand? Digital operation with telex.

The most current prototype is the dual-mode (electric and diesel) Eem 923 shunter of SBB Cargo which is/was made by HAG Classic:

These models are digital and can be retrofitted with automatic couplers.

Perhaps already a bit more difficult to obtain is the HAG Classic model of the electric shunter Ee 922. These are used in large stations for switching passenger cars:

Märklin made various model varieties of the Ee 3/3 electric shunter. These classic locomotives were in operation from the late 1920's until 2020 - so almost 90 years. At least one of the newer Märklin models is equipped with the chunky-style Telex couplers.

Roco also offered the Ee 3/3 for many years. I assume that the current digital version is still available:

There is also the SBB Ee 6/6II from Hobbytrain available as 2nd hand. I have the three-rail version 61661, a pretty OK runner using an ESU decoder.

Hi
Marklin 36333 SBB E3/3 has a digital coupler is the green version. They also produced a red version a few years ago with a standard coupler. I have seen the red version last week in Geneva moving passenger coaches in the yard.

For shunting, I have the following models:

Ee 3/3: There are still a few remaining in service, although that number is probably down to very small single digits by now.

Am843: I have this model in red from Mehano. It can be used for shunting and also for diesel power on mainlines
Am842: I have this model from Maerklin. I do not know if these are still in service. There were a few leased for use in Italy
Bm 4/4: There are still some of these in service for shunting and for mainline diesel traction.

The Hag Classic models of the new Stadler shunters are the current models used for shunting of passenger cars in main stations
SBB Passenger division for a time was using older locos of assorted types (RBe 4/4 Prototype, Re 4/4I) to shunt in Zurich/Basel.

The new Alstom dual mode shunter is horrid looking. Sorry, not my thing (at all).

What exactly do you want to shunt? Freight or Passenger?

Regards

Mike C

Dear Mike C, many thanks for your answer and for sharing your personal choices. I am mainly interested in shunting passenger cars.

Passenger coaches (consists) in places like Zurich HB or Geneve-Cornavin were traditionally shunted using Ee3/3. Over the past years, the Ee 3/3 was replaced by the new Stadler Ee922.
In a few stations, shunting was done by older classes of electric locomotive. I remember seeing a specially outfitted Re 4/4I in Basel SBB and I know that RBe 4/4 of the prototype series (1401-1406) were used around Zurich. I was told that one of the first series of Re 4/4II had also seen some use as a shunter in Basel too.

As Stefan mentioned, Roundhouse has a few models of the Ee922 listed as in stock, including the one based in Geneva. I am assuming that the model in question is 3-Rail AC. There are also one or two DC models showing as in stock.
The other possibility would be to try to find one of the red Am843, which are used in some stations. This is a diesel and not electric.

A long shot would be a model of the Ee934, which was a dual system variant of the Ee 3/3. I think that Rivarossi made a model of this at one point. Those locomotives are today also at the end of their lives.

Of course - I shouldn't have forgotten that one. A very nice model by Rivarossi, also available in AC, but for digital and Telex couplers a specialist would have to try a modification. The Ee 934 (previously classified as Ee 3/3 IV) is a very typical loco for Geneva.
