Hello, This is my first post here. I have recently bought three Marklin 3030 locomotives that are connected to each other by wires so they work together. I attached a picture. There is a pick up shoe in only one of them. The others do not even have the plate or screw hole for a pickup shoe. I was wondering if this set up is original. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks, Murat

Hmm, strange setup! I guess someone tried to make it ressemble a dm3 engine used to haul the iron ore train between Kiruna, Sweden and Narvik, Norway. Have a look at either the Märklin or ROCO models of DM and DM3. The one called DM is actually 2 DM's connected back to back. A DM3 is actually a DM consist with an added DM3 unit between the 2 DM's.

Not quite true. I can see a threaded hole for the screw that would hold the pickup shoe on the left hand loco, and I can see the connection plate for the pickup shoe on the middle loco. I can't see enough detail on the right hand loco to see the screw hole. The wiring between locos is somewhat amateurish and would look pretty unsightly on a layout. Certainly not an original Marklin 'feature'.

Thank you all very much. I can see now what they were thinking. Well, I bought them cheap and all three locomotives are in good condition. They removed the reversing units on the front and end locomotive. I will restore them to their original beauty.

Hi all, I recently got this kind of DM 3. It was manufactured from three Märklin 3030 by Lokschuppen Hagen-Haspe in Germany in the 80ths. In Switzerland have been two small manufacturers of this DM 3 loco. Swisstoys/Romeo Pianezzi in Thalwil Loki-Spengler in Wohlen They each made very small amounts of this beast of locomotive. enjoy Rei |
