Since 2014-2015, I have been a semi frequent traveller on the TEE "Helvetia" between Hamburg and Zurich.
It seems that the cook in the kitchen is constantly starting fires. I can't tell you how many times he has run out of the kitchen screaming.

I don't know if it the Union or German labour laws that prevent DB from firing him.
I keep expecting better quality and this has me thinking that maybe the Bord Bistro is not such a bad idea at all.

I have had the opportunity for a few years now to take the IC "Tiziano" instead and am very pleased to report that there has not been a single kitchen fire during any of my trips on that train.

Seriously, the cute functions on the 43866 restaurant coach are getting a little old. I would rather just have some German and Swiss station and onboard announcements rather than listening to the world's loudest waiter and customers yelling that can be heard from almost a (scale) km away from the moving train...

That said, I hope this moment of levity took your mind off the day's (and year's) problems for a minute or two.

Regards and best wishes for 2021

Maybe a smoke generator would be a suitable function then.

Cheers,

Next years model will include a new feature - real smell! The smoke generator will be filled with recycled chip pan fat and a few other burnt trace elements from the cooker to produce that realistic greasy spoon odour reminiscent of the railway buffet car. Smoke oil comes in sausage, bacon, steak, and fish and chips flavours.

Happy New Year all!

Every time I take the "Helvetia"
(1:14)

Never a problem on the "Tiziano" except for the guy who keeps ordering beer while everybody else is ordering breakfast ;)

though Kraut can be served warm, it is not prepared by cooking. The sliced cabbage is fermented with some salt for a couple of weeks, and it produces its own bacteria for the fermentation.
