Hi all
Picking members brains
The 2 locomotives I have the BR18 and BR23 are digital or have been converted to digital by a previous owner and I did not know this.
Having run them with a Trafo 6511 controller not knowing any better I have (fried) the decoders on both locomotives.
Is it worth me replacing the decoders and is it difficult or put it down to experience and junk the locomotives.
The decoder I have seen on ebay is Marklin 60760 would that be the correct replacement?

Is there anyone in the UK doing repairs as I'm a bit ham fisted.

Thank you for any advice / help.

Yes unfortunately, I've done this in my early digital years but only once, they run ok with this transformer but the moment you change the direction the decoder will be ruined, the other factor is, the decoder has to be multiprotocol decoder whereas it can recognize different system such as AC analog, DC analog, AC digital and DC digital automatically.
I don't think it would be wise to dump the locos but I think replace the decoder and get a Märklin mobile unit/transformer which doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

The 60760 is intended for use with DCM motored locomotives and includes the conversion parts for a DCM motor. I have used a 60760 with a SFCM loco (3000) but since your loco has previously been converted you would be purchasing redundant parts.

I'd get a mLD3 decoder or a mSD3 if you want sound in the loco.

You don't say which model numbers you have - I know the 3005 BR23 has a SFCM motor, the BR18 most likely has a DCM.

Hello
I have opened up the BR18 and the decoder has a small paper label on the back with the following numbers printed on it 4/07/55
Any clue what this may mean

Thanks again

I can certainly help with repairs if needed.

Its an ESU decoder and the number gives ESU the data when the decoder was purchased.
