So I am creating a large layout with parallel (omni-directional) tracks most of the way, but I want to create a nice tight loop in the middle (think Tehachapi Loop) that has the two lines merging for a bit. I'd like this single line fully automated and intend to control entry into it with the direction switches attached to signals.

However, the 8947 track piece has been disconnected and this appeared to be used for reversing the polarity/direction of that single lane of track through the section. I understand that the 8945 might work instead, but I've only used one to handle block signals before -- nothing about a constant current in a changeable direction is shown in the old instructions that I have, nor can I find that online.

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I consider the dance that will occur in this area to be the highlight of the track.
