Die E44 from Marklin 34440 and 37440 is the strongest I have seen so far. It has pulled trains with a lenght of 220 axles more then 10 meters (30 feet) on my own train layout and on the club layout even more. Also a Marklin br 44 steamengine 37880 has pulled trains of 8 a 10 meters on the club layout without problems for many hours. We needed 2 Fleischmann br50 fore the same train. Also Marklin 37210 is a very strong loc and the first Marklin V90 with has got the softdrive sinus update and they are very strong also. They have pulled trains of 160 and 180 axles. The greatest problem is pulling out of the coupling of the nem pocket loc our wagon. More then 10 meters is not possible on my own layout.

Any locomotive with rubber tyres on 4 wheels instead of the standard 2 is going to be a pretty good puller and typically heavier too and I have a fair few of those.
Poor pulling locomotives are either 2 tyres and low body weight, or mechanical/design limitations such as they slip on inclines because the wheel lifts off the rail where 2 sections of track join. |

Hi David Among my locos, the strongest ones are: - the 3015 (CCS800) with tires - the 39401 CC 40100 SNCF - the VT 11.5 2 motors, 8 tires A special mention to the DL800 which has no tires but is still a monster (12 traction wheels but sadly no tires) Cheers Jean |

haven't done any extensive testing but my Big Boy (37990) has a very strong pulling power. Pulled two Tragschnabelwagen and a couple of other wagons with a high number of axles, other locomotives struggled but the big boy pulled it with ease.

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time. |
