Help!

I recently took delivery of one of these amazing machines. The post holding the safety valve lever had got slightly bent and in trying to centre it, I managed
to snap the post; leaving the thread in the base of the safety valve. Does anyone have any idea where I could get a replacement from or how to fix this?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and help with solving my dilemma.

Regards,

Gavin

Can you show a close up picture of your engine and it's broken part. It can probably be fixed by someone with engineering experience.

Please see the attached photo; the broken post is on the left and you can see the thread in the left hand hole

My suggestion [ if you cant buy a new one ] would be to go on the internet and find someone who builds models from scratch, like steam engines. The thread could be removed. the "post"could be drilled out , threaded and a new thread screwed into it. I presume it the same as the other "post"shown without handle. Is the "post"solid or does it swivel. Cant see myself. It looks like brass! ?? Perhaps describe how it works and you could use this forum to show a perspective repairer what you need doing.
All the best.

Gavin, you could do worse than trying Märklin Service directly, they just might have the part in stock. I agree it's probably unlikely, given the age, but if you don't ask you'll never know.

Or they may be able to refer you to a dealer that could assist.

Failing that, Ritter restoration could almost certainly make one for you, but then I expect any half-decent engineer could do the same for a lot less.

Let us know how you get on.

I aggree! ThumpUp
If you observe the photo and drawing thoroughly, you will see that it is "just" a mechanical support. No high pressure or steam-tubing is involved.
A good gluing or even a simple solder/welding will hold it in place, as long as it withstand heat, moisture and vibrations.

Do not know, if I can solve your dilemma. But I send you a few links, which may help you. Unfortunately most of them are in German. Please feel free sending me a PM for helping you in German. The first link is this Ritter Restoration mentioned by @Cookie_NZ. The website is in English available.

Even in the Maerklin databse I found your article # 16051. You are pretty new at marklin-users.net. I post you the links to the Maerklin databse as well. Perhaps you are not informed about it yet.

Thanks for the advice CookeeNZ. I did contact the Märklin spares department and they confirmed that the part is no longer manufactured and they are out of stock. I will try contacting Ritter restoration and see if they can help me. I did find something suitable on the Beng website; unfortunately they are out of stock at the moment.

Gavin

I don't think superglue would hold for very long. It is under tension, not compression. I wonder if the guide post has the same thread, if so, you may be able to drill it to hold the pivot pin, and swap them over. Then you would not need to drill and thread the broken one. you may be able to just drill it to fit a straight pin, then super glue [ or araldite ] that into place. Vibrations and heat are things you might have to factor in.

Cool

I would probably just modify one of these or similar: https://www.ebay.co.uk/i...8461a:g:QewAAOSw-0xYao7Z

They come in all sizes, now we need to find out the thread size of the broken screw Cool

Per.

Cool
