Hi,

I've been keeping an eye on the 88025 VW camper model which is due for release next month and looks like a fun little model. It'll be a first if it is actually available next month, but that's another story.

What has struck me, though, is that the pictures available (including that in the user manual, which is now online) look more like renders from CAD data than real photos. For certain, they make the thing look very crude and lacking in detail compared to other models.

Just wondering if anyone else has been watching this model and what their thoughts are?

Cheers

Chris

Incidentally, do you ever visit Modelbouw Vershooten in Antwerp? I discovered it the last time I was there, but it was a Sunday and the shop was closed. Looks like a nice shop, though!

This is the only shop I physically visited. It's a second hand shop.

I buy mostly online (Germany or Japan) and via someone who has a small shop in his spare time. All the rest is second hand.

About this small gem.. I don't know.. Perhaps nice in a small scale scenery piece with some railroad workers? Confused Anyway there are some loks I desire more than this: BR 05, BR 64, BR 212, V 80, ...BigGrin Blink aaaand a 0-10-0 one :D

Hi. This is pure guesswork.

This model is one with the new metal injected with the plastic. Perhaps more attention was taken to this process rather then the fine details we have become accustomed to.

Still, an interesting model. Some German websites show the van with a roof rack on it, perhaps in an effort to give it a bit more weight.

Best wishes.

Dwight

They have A small test track in the middle where you can test loco's.

Prices are sometimes 'cheap' for Z scale rolling stock but locs are a bit pricey. They have a small cupboard of Z scale and a huge stock of HO :)

Filed under the adage "which came first? The chicken or the egg" ... The 88025 motor surprisingly is already available.

https://zscalehobo.com/marklin/296142.html

And my goodness is this 88025 a popular upcoming item!

Trainini had an article showing some prototypes of this new chassis a while back ... I don't know the issue off the top of my head, but there were some sneak peeks of the inner workings of this "metal injected plastic" idea from Märklin.

Surely Marklin wouldn't sacrifice detail for weight would they? So far the movement has been in the opposite direction. I have seen pictures of other models with the metal impregnated plastic bodies and they look up to the usual standard, so I don't think it's a limitation of the process.

Marklin's website have pictures of the model with and without the roofrack, so maybe it's removable? I can see more weight might be desirable, though, with only four wheel pick-up and a short wheelbase.

Cheers

I wonder if this is an omen? I was looking at the user manual last night, and there is a note warning against continuous running!

The exploded drawing shows drive to the rear wheels is via a belt - perhaps this places extra load on the motor?

It will be interesting to see how smoothly this model runs.

For anyone who is interested, I found the article in the May 2019 edition of Trainini : Trainini May 2019

Cheers

Roof rack appeared just recently (blasted on Aug 24 via my Facebook page (LINK)) as first versions showed no roof rack. Explosion diagram also shows it - so i think it will be there in final versions. Yes I agree it's related to added weight making the unit track better.

At the price point offered it will be one we run carefully checking the base chassis for heat. Don't want to damage it.

Hi

I am not certain if this is a practical novelty, but I think we can all agree, this is a cute little example of how a small motor can be hidden in such a small little shell and actually work.

It might not be long lived but it is the first time Marklin created such an item in z scale. First releases are always more valuable than the follow up models. This alone could be a reason for many to buy it.

Best wishes

Dwight

I'm intrigued as to what has happened to this model. It disappeared from the Marklin website several weeks ago, though if you search by part number it is there but showing as "temporarily out of stock". Usually this means the first batch has been manufactured and shipped to worldwide distribution. Normally, though, by now it would be showing as in stock with various retailers and a few would have popped up on ebay. So far, nothing, however.

I'm beginning to wonder if Marklin are quietly withdrawing the model - perhaps because the belt drive is proving troublesome or because motor life is even shorter than expected.

I hope not as it's a fun model and could fit in with my layout quite well. However, after my traumatic experience with 88889 I'd prefer Marklin not to release it before it's ready.

Has anyone here seen signs of it being available in your part of the world?

Cheers

Funny how Marklin will have a loco on site for a long time and pull it just prior to release! That, I have seen before.
I guess I should get in line for one of these, it is a cool little car and I enjoyed the Trainini article. There is a lot going on there. These loco's can come and go so quick, look at the recent Kittel release, a while back I scoured the internet looking for one and then surprise, another batch came and went without my knowing. Oh well, it was pretty $, this one is a nice price for an oddball.

Hi. Sources I have used do not indicate this item is available yet.

Delays in production are common in the Marklin world. It is just how they roll. Then add in COVID-19, oh my, who knows.

Relax, it will show up one day.

Best wishes

Oh I know! The release of 88203 was put back and put back. When it did finally come out, I think it was about a year later than the original release date.

Having observed the turn of events with other new releases, this one is different, though.

Oh well, it will eventually be released or it won't. If it does come out it will probably only show more problems with my trackwork, anyway, so inevitably a mixed blessing!

Cheers

It's coming. Not going to go away given all the buzz about it.

Märklin USA said they would start "trickling out" of the factory soon - they mentioned that the release will be in waves and not a bulk release....

Definitely the earlier you already pre-ordered, the more likely you will get one.

I only ordered mine about a month ago, but it was with the UK distributor, so I'm hoping they get some of the early deliveries and I'll get mine from that.

I'm surprised this model is proving so popular - I thought it would only be novelty seekers like myself who would find this one appealing!

Well, I have just seen one of these on ebay, so it is obviously real and becoming available, as Frank assured us it would.

There is usually a week or two between me spotting the first of a new model on ebay and the UK distributor getting stock so hopefully I'll be getting mine soon and certainly before the end of the month.

As I have only seen a couple of pictures of this wee bairn, is it both gear drive (front) and belt drive (rear)? The einzelteile is not over-clear on this question of mine. A gear seems visible in a slot in the "frame" in a bottom view...Confused

Thanks all!!

Hello everyone.

Just a follow up. Did anyone receive one of these?

The Marklin Website mentions this article is out of production.

I have not received the one I requested, and now I see them on Ebay for over $200. Must be a rare item.

Thanks, take good care.

Hi. Great for you!

My vendor says his order was placed and that it just takes a while to make the crossing by ship. I don’t know about this, I will be surprised if I get one

I have mine and I’m very happy with it. Runs well and crazy cool. It does have a belt drive. Probably going to need replacement belts in 10 years but I imagine it is just an O-ring. Maybe try Zscalehobo? He mentioned having them on his FB page recently. And if you end up with two they are sure to retain their resale value.

I bet it's going to be popular with the kids if/when I next exhibit my layout! I'm booked for a show in November, but we'll see if that goes ahead!

Yes, just to the North East of London. I think it's quite a modest affair, but it will be good to get out - if it goes ahead!

There is also an annual Z oriented exhibition just outside of Oxford although I've not heard whether that one is on the cards this year.

The Z show that used to be at kingston bagpuize has been combined with the other Oxford Club show for at least 2, possibly 3 years now, and has been held at a school in Abingdon, OXON in October. I'm not sure if they are holding it this year as the Covid deal hasn't settled down yet.
