Occasionally I do a bit of modelling at the MMRC club rooms on a friday night.

Tonight I decided to plant some trees on one of the clubs small layouts, commonly known as the Black Forest layout.

IMG_6978.JPG

First up was the right hand back corner

IMG_6954.JPG

a tree may have fallen over and blocked the track

IMG_6956.JPGIMG_6957.JPG

Starting to take shape, and how to fix the trees in. Never hurts to show how its done.

IMG_6961.JPGIMG_6971.JPG

Then on to the right hand side, this is going to eat up a lot of trees

IMG_6965.JPGIMG_6979.JPGIMG_6976.JPGIMG_6981.JPGIMG_6963.JPGIMG_6962.JPGIMG_6974.JPG

Never hurts to have a helper, although those trees are rather short

Around here trees that close to the track would be trimmed or cut down about now, can't have wrong sort of leaves or needles on track, the trains can't take it ... BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

Another friday, adding a few more trees to the layout.

But first a "funny" story. I started putting a few more trees in, and decided to take a picture. Lets just say that the memory card was sitting in my laptop at home and not in the camera, Good thing there are a couple of spares in my camera case.

So first up was adding some trees in behind the loco shed to hide the track going up to the bridge

IMG_6992.JPG

Now I know its pretty subtle but they did not look quite right in terms of placement, so by adding one more to the left had side by the bridge worked wonders

The effect of hiding part of the backdrop so it appears through the trees is quite pleasing.

I then decided to add a few more trees to the hill, while leaving some of the bush in place

And now some overview shots

The question is , how many are to many. So far there have been 151 trees added to the layout. I think I could add 50-100 more!!!!

It is the same when you add people to the layout you always think more can be added. Also it can be said the more Marklin can be added to your collection when you think you have enough BigGrin

Nice! Thx for sharing. Thumbs up and all.
Maybe the trees behind the locomotive shed could be spread out a bit and perhaps have a varied height?

There were a couple of constraints with the placing of the trees behind the engine shed.

The trees are all a pretty standard height, and I do not have the inclination to prune them.

The space between the two tracks is quite narrow. the first plan was to have a single line of trees, but that looked a bit sparse, so there was just enough room to put a second row in behind the first.

How many trees are two many?

My friend believes everything in proportion

IMG_7010.JPG

But anyway, tree planting continued on Friday night

Until such time as we put a building into the field, I cant put any more trees up there, however, I started putting some in front. so out with the old.

IMG_7014.JPG

IMG_7016.JPG

And in with the new.

IMG_7028.JPG

IMG_7026.JPG

Still not convince about the trees in the very front pushed into the polystyrene. I can't drill holes into the base board at the front because someone put decoders and such like stuff under there. But it is coming along. Tree count is about 175, not bad for such a small layout.
