The Train Tech battery driven coach lighting product interests me.

I always wonder how sensitive the vibration monitoring circuit is.?
Is it possible that unwanted lighting may occur, say due to movement form other consists running on the layout.?
I would like to have a reed relay in circuit, so power can magnetically be switched off, and truly conserved.
Then a charge circuit and slider added, to charge a super capacitor fitted in the place of a battery.

Can the "sensing" components be identified? As it may be sensitive to vibration/movement/acceleration.
I am keen to know.

Thanks,

HANNES PORSCHE.

The unit is sensitive. However I like that coaches can turn lights off and on for cleaning by Preisers etc. Why not try a unit for yourself as we all have different opinions on lighting. I like no flickering and less noise form sliders.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Sometimes if there is movement in my train room they will light without the car actually moving. However I find them very nice lighting and they work well. A little expensive but once installed they are trouble free.

Very easy to install. No sliders or wheel contacts which reduces friction on long passenger trains. I have installed about a dozen and am happy with them. You can order them with extra led's for marker lights or other extra lighting.

Thanks for the comments.

It broadens a man lines of thinking.
Seems the unit works adequately.

David, I live at the southern end of Africa, I can not just walk to the next hobby shop and buy such unit. Crying
So at this stage the initial route is a paper study and gathering of information.

In any case my thoughts around a magnetic power switch, super capacitor and circuit, relates to conserving power of the unit.
I am thinking of possible "unwanted" switching from the "vibration" sensor and also having a rechargeable power system.

Does any body have such unit that can tell me the code of the IC on the PCB.
The specs of that will tell perfectly what principal and parameters it operates on and what output it realizes.
I could not obtain data otherwise.

Keep STEAMING.!

I have two coach sets fitted with the Train Tech lighting strips, and have nothing but praise for them. They are about 3 years old and are now needing to have the battery replaced, so I wouldn't worry about battery conservation, unless you think buying small watch batteries every three years is excessive.

The sensitivity is not an issue. I have to clout my baseboard quite hard for the strips to light up on their own, and even then they only stay on briefly and not for the full five minutes when they are properly activated by moving the train.

I bought mine from Gaugemasters, online, and delivery was prompt as usual. It might be possible to find them cheaper elsewhere...

A good tip is to buy them in sets of three. It works out cheaper that way and they throw in an extra LED for tail lighting.
