All of the wiring makes sense except were to put the black wire,( located next to the 2 orange wires on the decoder board. I am assuming that the decoder would be wired the same as any other decoder. And the motor is just an up grade. I want the ability to run this as a DCC lok with the higher code number. Am I missing something? Does the black wire not get hooked up? Any help if you can. Thanks

If the 3044 has been ugraded with a 60944 motor set, then the motor has been changed from an AC motor to an DC motor. The 60906 digital decoder has been designed for DC motors, and that is why there is no place to connect the black wire. I will recomend that you use a 60972 or 60982 decoder instead.

hello Rustya The 60906 decoder is not compatible with the 60944 motor set. The 60906 decoder is used for locomotives where the original analog magnetic coil and motor has been retained. The magnetic coil has two windings joined together, one for the forward and one for the reverse direction each connected, and then the black wire would go to the other side of the motor. The 60944 motor has a permanent magnet and eliminates the magnetic coil, thereby requiring only two wires. I agree with Per that a 60944 motor upgrade would go well with a 60982 decoder assuming you don't need sound, or otherwise a 60985 decoder if you want sound. Regards John

Another option is to put back the old field coil motor and use it with 60906 decoder. then the wiring will make sense.
