Hello,

Wonder if there are some experts on Marklin store displays.

I was given a couple of items:

A n approximately 7 foot tall reproduction plastic and aluminum semaphore signal (like 7039) - pretty rough - not marked Marklin, but from a former Marklin store. I assume it is scratchbuilt. Semaphore moves and lights up.

The real mystery is a factory sealed box labelled: Marklin 000816 Metall-Deko 120V usa.
I am kind of reluctant to open it. An internet search revealed nothing. Given that it is marked with 120V USA, I 'm guessing it is a powered display of some type.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Cheers,

7Gauges.

Does it look like the one behind this layout? (Sorry, picture is a little dark).

The 000816 is likely a lighted sign. "Metall" could refer to the material it's made from, or it could be a promotional display for the Märklin-Metall product range (similar to Meccano).

It may be in one of the Dealer sales or advertising item catalogues (Werbehilfen). I have some but not accessible at present (I'm on a Ferry). I have seen the semaphore signal in one of my catalogues.

Why are you reluctant to open it? A picture paints 1000 words as they say.

A photo of the label and box dimensions would be a start while we talk you into opening it :-)

As for the Signal display, most likely this (or very similar?)....
