Hi, I want to have a close up picture of the container grab on the faller ams crane. I understand it works like a ball point pen. Can anyone help with this. I was wondering if it is possible to use the same idea and attach it to the hook of the Marklin crane 7051?
Thanks Dan.

Hi Dan,

I found this (sorry for the quality) that does show the actuator, and it appears to work like a ball-point pen (biro?):

you can just make out how the plunger activates but it looks like a rather complex system for the catcher arms.

Could a system like that work on the crane? I suppose, if you have some extra time on your hands (like right now? LOL ), but how to duplicate it without all of the parts from a 402, I do not know.

Here Marco shows some of the workings of the 402:

https://www.marklin-user...r-Container-Terminal-402

with the myriad parts, and he may have a picture of the assembly instructions.

Hope this helps a little bit just to get the juices flowing. Someone else may have a lot better input than my feeble attempts LOL good luck!

Thanks, yes it looks a well thought out system. But the lack of spares puts me off buying one, I rather fancy the new Faller container crane. But I’ve yet to see one work. There is absolutely no film of it working on YouTube. I want to see it grab a container!!

It works quite well - I have one, but it's on my module over in the clubrooms so I can't get any detail photos.

That particular mechanism is quite simple and should not be difficult to 3-D print all the parts - problem of spares solved.

Just needs 'someone' with the right skills to copy the original parts and create the print file.

The specs are all based on the Faller Containers, the Märklin ones are slightly smaller but surely that could be a minor change?

Great photos. Can you add a video of it in operation, including gantry movement?

Wiad did make a container crane lifting accessory for the marklin crane but they tend to be be expensive if you can find them. After Wiad I think they were then made by Noch and possibly Herkart. They all looked the same.
If you want to make one yourself then you could use what is known as "sucker magnet" I have used them for remote control cranes. They are a permanent magnet surrounded by a coil. They pick up any ferous metal item and when the coil is energized (DC) it generates a magnetic field opposite to the permanent magnet and the item is released.
I have a number of them if you wanted to try it I would be happy to send you a couple. I had a bunch made a few years ago. You do not want to know what I had to trawl through on the internet after typing in sucker magnet when I was trying to find a supplier.
Cheers
Pete
