Last night our clubrooms were open for the first time in several weeks, but having to observe covid-enforced reduced numbers, maximum 10 people.

We also had the pleasure of a VIP in town - Alan Pearce ("KiwiAlan") stranded in NZ due to lockdown so he came along to check things out.

Very relaxing en enjoyable night had by all. Unfortunately no layouts were up and running but it was great to just have some hobby presence.

Photo from left shows Kevin Stevens who is our Clubroom Manager, Julian Ashford looks after our Goods for Sale, then Dave Biggs (" Bigdaddynz Offline "), our esteemed guest Alan (" kiwiAlan Offline ", and John Woodall (" mmrcnzjohn Offline ")

Was great to see you again Alan and if you can make it along again in a couple of weeks either Friday night or Saturday and we are not maxed out with numbers you are most welcome

I did manage to get a haircut. Now I am down at Blenheim for a week to see my youngest sister before starting the long haul back to the UK.

Thanks to the MMRC for the evening, even though there was no trains running.

No need to rush back Alan. I'd stay in a safe and civilised country until it's all over if I were you.

Best wishes, keep well

And with the gathering limits now raised some club activity is starting to return.

The Exhibition layout is also back up on its feet so if you can make it along again Alan before you leave that would be great.

Much as I would like to, I can't afford to, and anyway all my model train stuff is over there.

i guess I will get some time in on the hobby anyway as we will need to self isolate for two weeks.

We had some of the Gauge 1 modules up yesterday doing some work on them. There were also discussions regarding modifications and improvements to some modules, mainly Tim's ones.

I left a toolbag in the clubrooms with quick fix clamps in it, so will have to go pick those up sometime.

I don't have photos of the G1 layout, but here are a handful of the HO layout.

IMG_5488.JPG

A view looking down the layout.

IMG_5490.JPG

Pan back a bit and here is the funicular. I didn't appreciate that I should have included more of the top of the hill, as you will see below ...

IMG_5489.JPG

Swing to my left and this is the 'near' end of the layout.

IMG_5493.JPG

This is the helix under the 'far' end of the layout. This is currently under refurbishment apparently.

IMG_5494.JPG

I always like to have a nosey "around the back" to see how other layouts handle fiddle yards etc. You can see the back part of the Faller Car system loop at the bottom of the back scene about half way down, all the other bits are railway track.

IMG_5495.JPG

Here is the reason i should have included more of the hill at the top of the funicular in the second photo. This town scene can replace the meadow scene at the top of the funicular.

I had been meaning to put these up and thank the club for allowing my visit during the time of restricted allowed activity during the Covid-19 lockdown. The hospitality was much appreciated.

The castle was built by club member Reinhold Kittelberger, and was designed to be used either on the club layout at the top of the funicular or on a separate module for use with the modular layout.

Some shots of the 1 Gauge modular layout, 'Istein'.

This last shot is of a member's Swiss G1 layout, 'Uri' which can be joined up to 'Istein' when space allows.

Here is a video of the exhibition taken by Trevor McGavin, a workmate of one of our club members, taken at our Railex show in 2016.

Points of interest from a Marklin perspective

0:51 Our Club G1 layout Istein / Uri

13:58 Some Marklin / European layouts our club displays that kids can operate themselves

15:14 Our Club H0 layout Bergtalbahn

26:11 Our sister club The Manawatu European Club H0 layout

11:21 Not Marklin, but a 9mm scale layout that has a New Zealand Railways theme that features many trains that ran during the 1950's / 1960's.

Another video I took of trains running on Istein

Oh, just tea and biscuits, along with some pleasant chat with the members.

But as much as anything, it gave me a chance to get out of the house, and see some different people Blink BigGrin
