Of course is possible

Tell me who decoder exactly want to buffer, and the base plate of the decoder.

In general the buffer is connected with to the U+ (orange) and U- (violet).

The Märklin buffer 60974 is only for use with mLD3 or mSD3 retrofit decoders and is connected to the SUSI socket of the base plate

Hi
I got a märklin LokDecoder mLD3. 60972.I know I can connect a 60974 buffer cap on it.SUSI connection.
I will try to build a buffer cap and connect it to a ESU 64610 decoder.

@geir is right, this is the circuit to use. Just find U+ / Gnd (U-) on your motherboard. Pick the largest capacitor that physically fits the space (or several in parallel), but don't forget the resistor and the diode. They limit the charging current, which might otherwise trigger a "short circuit" event in the base station.

Since I went through the same quest some time ago I hope more information can help newcomers. What I find useful is the googling for "MTC21 pinout" as a reference for the connector pins that the Marklin decoders use. For mSD/3 or mLD/3 base plates this boils down to the diagram below (mixing information from the upgrade decoder manual and NEM 660 info). You can use any of the GND/Vcc pins for this functionality.

If your loco already has a motherboard and you want to attach to that one, it usually exposes the same pins on some pads. Use a multimeter to trace where pins 16 and 20 are exposed on the motherboard.

I strongly encourage connecting the keepalive to the motherboard, to allow swapping out decoders easily (upgrade, firmware updates etc).

Hello,

Could we make a structured POST about power packs (ESU or self made) and the way to connect it to Maerklin decoders : delta, C80, mfx, fx, other ...

I have somewhere a scheme that shows how to made oneself a Anti ALzheimer for 60760 decoder, and how to connect it (and it works well ...). I would like to build a self made power pack (for a few euros instead of 40 euros for ESU powerpack) and be able to connect it.

Thanks
