Loco 26544 stopped running on digital layout
MS 60653
DECODER 610761
I have been attempting to program this loco with new address because it may have been changed by accident. The lock manual has procedure if using 6021 . Been trying unsuccessfully using different approaches in 60653 manual. Is the 610761 decoder a DCC, mm 2 programmable etc? Does it matter the type it is when using MS 60653 to program? Can the 60653 be used?
As I noted my attempts to get this loco running again have been futile. Can someone present a step by step procedure to set the parameters on a loco 26544 with 610761 decoder using the 60653 mobile station?
I presented this problem in a previous thread but that thread got hijacked. It has more info. Labeled stopped running on digital layout. As you may be able to tell I am getting flustered and appreciate any help in finding remedy and learning at same time

Hi Thomas

Your loco is an FX loco (see NH 2008 ) See page 98
Here is my attempt to help:
1- Is the loco working in analogue mode? If yes continue.
2- Connect only your loco to the MS2 and its rail box.
3- Write CV 8 with the value 8 (reset to factory default) See below

Use only the Master MS2 in case you have 2
- Press Shift+Wrench
- Scroll down until you reach Loco reset
- Confirm the reset

All this is explained in this video alas in German but images may tell you a lot. I am not sure you need to go through the MS2 Factory reset phase.

I hope this helps
Cheers
Jean

1) Do you have any other locomotives? Are they working fine?

Yes

The problem is with the lok

No

The problem could be with the lok or with the MS2

Step 1) Reset the MS2

Place locomotive on the track. Use MS2 to identify the lok. It should hopefully find the Re484 Cisalpino (or whatever it is called) in the database.

Step 2) Select enter lok manually. Set MM value to 01. Test to see if lok responds. Change value to 02 through 80.

You should be able to find the address that the lok responds to.

Do you have an older analog transformer? If yes, connect it to a section or two of track. Does the locomotive respond in analog mode?

If yes, place the lok back on the digital track and see if it now responds to control.

If you do not have an analog transformer, take a 9V battery, connect one terminal to the wheels and the other to the slider. Leave connected for about 30 seconds.
Place lok back on the digital track and see if it now responds.

The lok address should be 24 from factory.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

For the MS2, look through the database for 36850/51/52 or 36606
See if the locomotive responds now

36606 instructions (same as 36850) but updated for MS2

Thank you for the information. Performed a loco reset then MS2 reset. Placed loco on track and no recognition by ms 2. Tried FIND same result. The loco works on analog layout. After running it on analog, I put it back on digital. No recognition. I tried database entry, 36850 and 36606. These did not work either. Tried manual entry with addresses 1 thru 24 which did not work. Overtime I may work thru other addresses to see if any work. Since it runs on analog, I'll run it on the analog side of layout. The other locos that have decoders with switched entered back into ms 2 with no issues. Does this indicate the decoder is no good? Or? Again, I appreciate all your help!

Why did you start a new topic for your problem that was already being discussed?

The answers you have been given here are the same as you were given before.

Hi Thomas

The loco you have (FX type) needs a reset.
You checked and reset your MS2. You have checked your loco is working in analog mode so all you have to do is reset the loco. Have you done it as per my previous post?
Cheers

Okay, I started the new topic because there were no new responses since the post from the other newbie. The new topic I started yielded new info like the type decoder etc. Since I'm not real experienced with my MS2 , it took the different explanations and outline of steps for me to understand. I did do a reset of mobile station。I performed a loco reset before I reset the mobile station. When I placed the loco on track, mobile station was powered up, the loco started slowly rolling down track. It stopped after moving about 4 track sections. The mobile station did not show any locos. I tried FIND and database entry. Still no joy. I was wondering, when I reset loco, does the loco reset to 24, the factory setting? Might be a silly question question but need to be sure.
When I run loco on analog, or using the 9 volt batterysetup, how does that affect loco and digital discovery?

Hi Thomas
There is no loco registration since your decoder is FX (works with MM2 and is programmable only.
So now you have to discover what was the factory coded address for your 26544 loco.
Note: the address discovery function fails more and more since LEDs are used. One brutal force method is to use all addresses from 1 to 256. Often Märklin uses the 2 digits of the loco type number.
The set was delivered with a manual (where the address is indicated) and probably (not sure) a smart card containing all loco info. Don't you have any of these?
I searched but I haven't fount the 26544 manual. May be one of our members have it for you?

Alternate method
- connect your loco to your MS2, it must be alone (no other loco)
- do as for loco reset but instead select program CVs
- write in CV 0 the address you wish and confirm. The loco should have its headlight blink. Then you are in business
Cheers

Well, I'll be dipped in dog poop....Everything reset, went through the change loco menus and when I changed the address and confirmed the lights flashed....I knew things just got better. The silly loco works as before, thanks again for all your patience and help. I wanted to add that I did get a loco manual with the set but no loco card. It helps and hinders. Till next time:))

All, I am a complete newb on digital loks and have not paid attention to the threads on the list because I always collected analog. A few years ago, I bought a digital lok used and was hooked (Marklin 37404). I am now up to 14 loks. Long story short, I also struggle to register loks on my CS2 and MS2. Thanks for the explanations because I have had the same issues. BigGrin
