Just leaving Villingen on my virtual journey through the Black Forest, I spotted this on a side track. It seemed a lonely and neglected place to park such an iconic train. A quick Wikipedia search didn't seem to provide an explanation for it being there either. Any ideas?  VT 11.5 TEE.png (1,146kb) downloaded 197 time(s).

Thanks PJ, I knew the answer would be found quickly on this forum. I had glanced through the comments for the video but was looking for VT 11 and not 601 which they were reclassified as according to the Wikipedia article. Your article from Südkurier explains it well and also it's sad fate.

I photographed various bits of tee 11.5 sets in the museum at SVG Horb in September 2017 and I believe they were transferred there following the fire at the DB Museum in Nurnberg but on a more recent visit in September 2019 they had gone. I hope they weren't any of the ones that were scrapped at Villingen.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news again:
As I understand, there used to be two TEE sets on display in Horb, 1x class 601 and 1x class 602, and it is this class 601 set which was scrapped now. |

Well Caught!! Years ago I used to regularly ride this one, or one very like it, from Brussels to Luxembourg, The trains was the Btussels to Zurich TEE. Maybe if I had stayed aboard longer I might have passed its Schwarzwald resting place  |

I just found this update on the VT11.5. It seems the restoration has only got to the cosmetic stage and it won't be running again. (I was reading the auto-generated subtitles with auto-translate so might have missed some important information). In my opinion it's got to be one of the world's most striking looking trains.

Unfrtunate if they don't get it running again after all that. They were working on wiring, etc. Perhaps at least to light the cars up. The turbo sound these make is neat.
