Hello all,

I am wondering if I'd run my loco without smoke oil or not when sound function is on,
because this BR 86 (79021) smoke generator (retrofitted) will be on with sound (F1).
I tried to look up in Seuthe web, and Google translator told me that as long as it's within allowed
voltage, the generator won't be damaged even without smoke oil, while suggesting to switch off
if possible to enjoy its maximum life....
Is it better putting smoke oil whenever I play with sound on, or don't think too much just play with
sound without oil?

Hope to hear your opinions :)
thank you
Sean

Hi Sean

The recommendation in these days of the digital operation and switching, is to keep the smoke generator off if there is no oil in.

Any way for many years with the analog operation this was not possible so the smoke generator was with power all the time that the loco moves, most of the time without oil in.

I have locos from the 60's (3045, 3046, 3047, 3048) and other newer ones operated in analog mode without oil 95% of the time, and the smoke generators are working fine.

So I think that there is no problem

Costas

Hello Costas,

Thank you for your reply.
This loco is my first one has no on/off switch, so I had no idea what the best was,
and I really appreciate for yours :)

warm regards
Sean

When I say switch I mean electronic switch with a Function, not a mechanical one.

If you see the mapping of your decoder you may find more useful info's.

The spare parts of your loco

The decoder is the ZIMO: MX645P22

Hello again Costas,

Thank you for the info again, and I also checked the user manual, it says sound and smoke generator functions work together.
I have no clue how to change/modify data inside decoder yet a newbie, but try to study Cool

thank you again for your help :)
Sean
