After 6 years of having my layout stuff in boxes I finally unpacked them and started setting them up in my home in India. Ran a couple of trains on it yesterday.

I have a new motorized winching layout.

Here is a short video.

Nice, you actually have a fair bit of room for a layout hidden up there.

Are you planning to do a permanent build with scenery?

As they say where there's a will there's a way

It looks good just hope it never falls

Congratulation's - The trains are to be enjoyed and you can't do that with them sitting on shelf

motorized! Very nice! Once it is down do you rest it on some trestles to stop it moving about?

I did a similar thing in my bedroom in the mid 1970s, but not nearly as nice. Mine was all manual and I had to take the rope from each corner to a central pulley at the top which wasted some vertical space.

Eventually I want to add scenery and maybe a two level layout with basement parking. But right now the focus is to just get all my rolling stock out of boxes and get them running on a basic layout.

I have 4 stainless steel legs that I need to thread to the base of the layout. This helps but still allows a little bit of movement of the table.

Some of my friends have manual cranked platforms. I took their idea and motorized it.

I hope it never falls too. But the mechanism does have a built in ratcheting system which is supposed to prevent such issues.
In any case I have made an arrangement with eye hooks and steel cables to manually restrain it if something does happen. Basically, 2 steel cables will be strung under the platform and will be hooked on to eye hooks on either end which are drilled into concrete.
