Hi Guys,

I have just fitted a lokpilot XL v4 to a BR80, and I would like to fit a smoke unit to the loco if possible. Is there a Suethe unit that fits this loco?

Also, has anyone done this conversion before and set the motor CV's to get the best performance?

Thanks,

Mike

Does the ESU magnet fit OK to this loco?

Seuthe do produce G1 smoke units but whether they fit the BR80, I don't know......

But since I have a Seuthe G1 smoke unit and a G1 BR80 (not mine though) in the house, I guess I should check......

Yes the ESU magnet does fit, it's the same magnet they use for the old 3015 crocodile.

The ESU P/N 51965.

If you could check the smoke unit that would be great.

Cheers....

Looks like the smoke unit will fit. Unit is a Seuthe #7, for 0 and 1 Gauge - 11v-16v. Lokshop have them (cos I got a couple when I was there in September). Cost was about 18€.

The BR80 body is plastic though, hopefully the smoke unit won't deform the body - I did fit one of them to my BR78 which has a plastic body, it hasn't done any damage to the body.

I replaced the smoke unit because some bright spark left the smoke unit turned on without any smoke fluid in it at Railex the year before last.... I ended up with a handful of charcoal which used to be a smoke unit. It also did some damage to the loco's plastic funnel because of the smoke unit overheating with no fluid in it. So, moral of the story is that the fluid also provides cooling to the smoke unit, so that it doesn't overheat and deform the body.

Thanks for the advise re the smoke unit, will keep that in mind.

Is there anyone in the wellington 1 gauge group who mave done a similar conversion and can provide the CV's for fine tuning the motor, or do I need to just experiment with it?

Cheers....

Peter Lemmon might be able to offer some advice, or maybe Douglas Parker.

I don't know if either have converted a BR80, but they have converted other analog locos.

Cool

A friend of mine have made the conversion, using a Loksound L ( Not XL ) and an ESU dynamic smoke generator Cool

I have no idea about the CVs.

Is it with an old Allstrom-motor or a newer DC-motor?

Per.

Cool

It is with the three pole motor and a hamo magnet, I have set the CV's to the recommended value from the ESU instructions and it seems to run ok.
Will have to order a smoke unit next.

Is it possible to retrofit telex to these models?

I've fitted a Seuthe 8E smoke unit to my digital converted MA5700 BR80. The body of the loco is indeed plastic, so be carefull.

Ok, what is the difference between the 7 and 8e?

I looked on lok shops website and they didn't list the #7, and Suethe don't appear to have a website that I can get info from.

Cheers....

No8 is listed as gauge 1 suitable for digital on their website.

The e suffix is without accessories i think.

In the sheet you posted is written:" all above steam generators are available as E= Replacement steam generator without accessories."
I imagine 8E is the same as 8 without accessories.
