Hi, I've just acquired a second hand 3076

and after a bit of adjustment and cleaning it runs very well providing the top is not on. However once the cover is replaced something fouls the power bogie on corners, causing it to derail. It looks as if the culprit is a blue rectangular item which connects the power to the motor brush. It may have been bent out of position ( I can't work out exactly where it should be ). What is this, and is it essential or could I just remove it? If essential could it be moved further along the wire away from the motor to stop the fouling ?
Thanks
Richard

Richard Hi That "blue thing" is a choke that was needed in the days of AM/ FM radio. In any case it should be pointing the other way , and above the motor Bend it carefully , and it should be ok. Cheers Jacques Vuye |

Hi Richard Not having pictures of the motorised unit I can only guess If the motor has not been changed then it is probably a problem of placement of motor cables and of the choke (noise suppressor) This is probably the blue thing that may get in the way When the housing is in place, verify both bogies can turn freely I hope this helps Jean |

Hi Jacques, That was the answer, having moved the choke to the front I had to lengthen the wire to the direction relay as it was fouling the movement when the cover was on, which I assume was the problem the original use was trying to solve by moving the choke in the first place. It now works perfectly. Thanks for the help Regards Richard

Hi, I have the same engine, and had similar problems.
I found 2 things
1) The noise inductor is supposed to sit on top of the motor. Mine had fallen to the side, which limited the motor in turning fully. I moved it back to the top of the motor
2) The wires to the motor were short, and are clipped on the side of the engine with little retaining clips. The wires being too short also prevented the motor from fully turning. I fixed this by simply removing the wiring from the clips. Although I should probably replace the wires with longer wires.
If you don't mind, I'd also like to ask a favor. My reversing unit is giving me trouble. I have forward only, but no reverse. It seems to be a relay or contact issue. And I'm to the point where I think someone may have replaced the unit and possibly wired it incorrectly. Could you possibly do me a favor and post a nice close up picture of the wiring to the reverse relay unit so I can confirm my wiring.
Thanks.
Michael

I hope these help. The blue wire is the extension I had to make to allow free movement of the motor pictures here

I'm glad to see that you sorted it out.
Mine had the same problem on corners.
Wow, it looks like you have a totally different reversing relay than I have.
And also, it looks like mine is installed 90 degrees differently than yours.
Therein may lay the problem. A prior owner may have swapped it out and miswired/misinstalled it.
I'm sure that I'll get it sorted out.
Thanks
Michael
