News just in that a train carrying about 200 passengers has left the tracks with the lead engine on its side . This has happened at a small country town of Wallan about 45 Km north of Melbourne at about 1950 hrs today . The XPT is very similar to the British HST with a power car at each end . No info on passengers or crew injurys .

Horrible accident, especially if it's caused by lack of repair or poor repair of track.

I can see that the article has been revised and that it is much more detailed now than it was earlier. The derailing happened when the train was diverted to a side track and didn't slow down... it could be a driver error or lack of signalling. Very sad.

From another article
https://www.9news.com.au...8-4fca-92bd-3331729c9559

it says
""Conditions were altered and V/Line drivers rightly refused to traverse this section over the past week."

someone is gunna get the boot over maintenance issues and signals

I hope its a high up big wig who despite drivers refusing to travel that section due to dangers probably forced the crews to drive , should ve cancelled the service

Driver complaints about subsidence (bog holes) under Victorian railway tracks has been the subject of TV news reporting for at least 10 years.
