I am trying to create a realistic train for my live steam Aster BR 86 in Gauge One. I am looking at Era III. I have a 3 car set of donnerbuchse, and now need some freight wagons to go with it to make a mixed freight in branch line service.

I see regular wood box cars offered, but what are these cars? What are the opening side panels for? Are these refrigerator or ice cars? What era were they built, and would they have been operated on DB branch lines in Era III?

Thanks in advance!

If you want to be more accurate, you will need to specify era3a or era3b. The class change in '55 and move to the DB 'cookie' were significant.

What BR86 model do you have exactly? (photo or item no.)
modelling era IIIa (1951-1955) Germany
