This was given to me today by a friend with G Gauge trains
I see via Google this is a mixed baggage/passenger car it has french writing on the side and huge relex type couplers also metal wheels

Mu main question is. with full metal wheels is this made for 3 rail use but 2 rail instead and it may be a model of a SNCF line

Hmm, I can see why you are asking here, a google search for 9311 limo brings up pages about limosines, and 9311 coach brings up pages about womans handbags!

Shannon,

I believe that is a SNCF (possibly TEE) "Fourgon Générateur A4D tux" generator car as a combo with seating. It is used on lines where there is not enough voltage through the catenary, or where there are diesel-hauled trains and the needs of the A/C and kitchen, etc., facilities exceed the capacity of the locomotive.

About 1/3 of the way down the page is an example.

You are lucky as those do not often come by!

And I believe the paint job to be for the SNCF "Le Capitole" and "Aquitaine" express trains, but it may have been used on others.

This is a Lima SNCF "Grand Comfort" A4Dtux combined baggage/seating coach. The model number is 309311. As all Lima coaches had numbers beginning with 30, packages were often numbered by just the last four digits. These coaches were also home to the generator, which provided power to the coaches in the consist, which enabled the use of these coaches on trackage with different voltage or with diesel traction, replacing the separate generator car used in the earlier Mistral coaches. This coach was normally found either immediately behind the locomotive or at the end of the train.

Thanks to all for the info. I'd never had guessed these had a generator and it's purpose. Awesome stuff. Now for this actual model is it a 2 rail item because of the metal wheels or can be used on three rail digital with different wheel sets

Unless you need/want interior lighting, 2-rail runs perfectly on M 3-rail as the axles are insulated (for the 2-rail power source). I use numerous 2-rail items on my track with zero problems, but then I do not require lighting. I should add that you may want to check the flanges on switches as they may be too large/small, but in general, they will run right along.

I have quite a few Lima HO coaches and they run perfectly on Marklin Track. They have quite large wheel flanges for 2 rail wagons and match the Marklin standard quite well.

Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

yes Ray id correct!
Just in case you experience some trouble on switches, just check inner spacing on the wheels' flanges , it should be around 13.8 mm for ideal compatibility with Märklin track.
But it's a nice find.
We run a Grand Confort consist on our club layout, with a mix of Lima and LS Model coaches. Wink Wink

Just adding this clipping from the 1973 Lima product catalog for coach number 9311. Doesn't really answer the original question from member ShannonN Offline , but perhaps some of the description might help out others.
