I went through the Märklin CS3 manual and could not find anything on operating temperature. But I did find a reference about altitude. Do not operate at an altitude over 2,000 meters / 6,500 feet.

Since you are at sea level in Holland............

It's lekker warm! BigGrin

Maybe the 44C isn't as "normal" as I wrote... At the time of my answer I was doing some work on the scenery and stuff so I wasn't driving that much. Seeing that nobody had answered for some days I googled about CS3 and temperature and found something about a guy having problems with his CS3 go up to more than 60 degrees, but working fine in the 40ies range.

Now that I drive my trains again I checked the temperature of the GFP3 with two trains running at medium speed and the temperature stays at about room temperature. In this case 19,5C while the thermometer in the basement shows about 20C. The only other things drawing power on my layout are switches with built in decoders and motors and a few stop signals.

Hi

I am not a specialist (although an engineer in electronics).
My CS2 shows 41°C and it is definitely normal. It is delivering a 2.9A current and is powered by a 60101 switching power supply.
Modern electronic components (power transistors) very often work well above 100+C
So I would't worry at this stage.
Cheers

Jean
