It looks like an F 800 model and the worth is around CHF 250,00-350,00. Depends when the locomotive did produced. 1950 to 1955? Not sure... |

My older brother goes to garage sales and bought a box of mixed locos. All were DC except for one Marklin that he gave to me which was an 01 097 (loco only, no box). For the cost of the lot each loco cost him $7 USD. It runs beautifully! His example is worst case scenario (or best depending how you look at it!). What is it worth? Who knows; the open market will determine that.... |

I did a quick search for Marklin 3048 on EBay and found many examples for sale, ranging in price from 60GBP to 200GBP. Unless your example is in very good condition I would warn you not to expect much above the lower end of that range.

Locos sell for what a buyer is prepared to pay. If somebody (hopefully more than one person) is keen to buy then you will get a fair price. However ensure the loco is running as it should before selling. |
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer. |

Perhaps you might want to consider displaying it especially since it is your grandfather's. Just a thought as it is a great looking locomotive.

Your grandfathers model was produced between 1969-1972 it has printed decals, black front step, no manual reverse lever and it hasn't got a coupling hook at the front., not a rare model and I would think a less attractive model to its previous releases., keep it unless you've got no one which would be interested in., sale price: who knows ?

I would agree, especially as the box is in a rather bad way. The exterior looks as though it has been damp at some stage and the polystyrene interior has been well knocked about, so it has obviously been in and out of the box a good few times which suggests it has been well used, although well treated as the bodywork looks generally good.

I've also noticed the side step(s) are missing on the front tender, which takes the price down further. here is a picture of my 3048 with a broken step but I've replaced it with a newly made piece of line circuit board John |
