the great picture is indeed showing the train car being filled, not emptied. The pipes can be seen going to the top.
Other images, at the link that Jimmy provided, show some cars also had a pump between the big barrels for filling. Sometimes the source barrel has been rolled up onto a small platform so that the pumping pipe is below the lower level of the barrel. I suspect the pump in the picture was more efficient as the built-in pumps as it has a large wheel rather than a back and forth lever type.
Other pictures show that a barrel on the ground was lower than the bottom of the big train barrels, allowing emptying of the rail car to be done without pumping.

I imagine the Viessmann 1550 could be modified for use as a liquids pump.

I think I would like the figure from the Barbequee Grill with a modified Organ Grinder as the pump. Looking at the e-motion selection these would seem to be the best ones.

Good idea Alan! The BarBQ guy already has the apron and nifty (food-centric) hat - although maybe pumping wine in a top hat and tails (like the organ grinder) has a certain cachet... - I can see this  Jimmy |

I also choked up a bit on the prices... and decided I should look into making an ESP8266 actuate a lever that could be programmed to work at different speeds and durations, allowing the animation of items on the layout. I would make it receive commands through the RemoteSign interface allowing complex integration with other events on the layout. Eg. a button panel on the side of the layout could be used to activate any of the devices. Edited by user 21 November 2019 22:51:49(UTC)

in re yumgui and Kimball discussion of loose barrels (Page 3 posts #139 & #140), I found this on the above mentioned forum.e-train on their page 2: http://forum.e-train.fr/viewtop...&t=5424&start=15 which if I interpret correctly are braces for the barrels, with this arrangement if you do not have a full wagon, noticing the little angles showing at the bands ("Cercle") of the barrels:  just FYI  and then this for the shipment of empty new barrels from the cooperage (tonnellerie) to the winery or some other distribution point: http://voiesferreesdegir...aux-pointe-de-grave.html note on the above picture - it is in Moulis-Médoc in the Bordeaux region of France My first thought was: "Buy a whole lot of loose barrels to fill a couple of open wagons for the winery!"
