At a recent train show I came across a Marklin New Items supplementary catalog from 1960 (Neuheiten 1960). I attach a copy of the front and back cover. I collect Marklin catalogs and I had never seen a new items catalog with this early of a publication date. I have original or scanned copies of nearly all the M catalogs, but this one is different. The original has only 20 pages and the images, while of high quality, are in black and white rather than color as is the 1960 full line catalog. Of special interest (for me anyway) was the back cover that previews (as I understand from my translation) those items that will NO longer be produced. I imagine that this was a tactic for Marklin to sell off their old stock in preparation for new product lines that were announced inside this New Items catalog. As an example the 4020/4021 SJ passenger coaches (some of my favorites) are announced as "going out of production" while their replacements - the 4030 and 4031 - are announced as the new items for 1960. Other models follow suit. Curious to learn from the group (Marcus?) when Marklin started printing these "New Items" catalogs and if anyone has copies that they could share? If there is any interest from the group I could scan this supplemental catalog and post it on my https://www.modelrailroadCollector.wiki for others to download and enjoy. Interested in any comments about these catalogs. Thanks, Kurt |

Hi Kurt, I'm pretty sure I have a 1953 New Items catalogue in that format, I'll check a little later and post it up. You may recall a few months back I did a series on the fold-out leaflets and uploaded scans of them. I suggest we do the dame for the older New Items also, it will be of interest to others I'm sure. Watch this space.... Steve |

Hi friends, The New Items (Neuheiten) catalogs were actually around for a very long time, almost from the beginning for 00/HO. In the 1930s the new items catalogs featured rare items such as the 406 flags which were never shown in a main catalog. The 1939 new items catalog showed the TW 800, green SK 800, rare T / HS 800 double pack, etc. Here's a letter from Marklin in 1938 that describes some of the new items and how they are listed: and the New Items catalog from 1947 - very rare! - note only 1,000 were printed with print code "T" Price lists from the period would often reference the catalog and the new items too. It would be interesting to compare whether new items list truly contained new items that were not in the main catalog printed previously. Or if they were just a short brochure to attract attention to a certain selection of top products. I would have to search for earlier large gauges and see if they had new items catalogs too. All the best, Paul |

I suspect these are probably dealer/distributor information leaflets rather than for public distribution. This may also explain why they are not common in the market place.

My next one is 1953, so in the meantime if anyone happens to have the 1951 or 1952 edition, feel free to upload for us all to enjoy :-) I'll leave it a few days to allow time |

Alan, I am surprised even these brochures were published at these years in Germany. Do not forget, in 1947 Germany had still the Reichsmark (Deutsche Mark was released 21.06.1948) and was governed by the 3 zones Western powers British, American, French. My mother told me, 1946 and 1947 were very hard and dry years. The drought was much bigger as the one in the passed 2 years and most of the German people in Germany were starving. It was the beginning time of the CARE parcels. Who should have been very much interested in train toys? Best Regards Wolfgang

Perhaps that is why these particular leaflets of the era were in English ? Oh definitely I think so too. Shortly after the war the majority of customers for Maerklin must have been members of the military forces stationed in Germany, buying toys for their children (and probably for themselves too ). Thanks for these interesting reminiscences from Carl Weaver. Even here in this forum, I read several times similar remarks by members already. More or less they wrote like as "my father was stationed as a soldier in Germany. When he came home he brought a train set from Maerklin with him".

Paul and Cookee - Thanks for the new items scans and thanks from my other Marklin friends with comments about the New Items publications. I'll be watching for additional uploads from forum members. Attached below is a link to download the complete 1960 New Items booklet in pdf format. Before attempting to upload 20 separate images (one for each page in the booklet) I thought that I'd attempt at making a pdf file from it. Enjoy. I also found a four page supplement to the 1947 catalog, but not sure if this thread is the correct place to post the scans. Perhaps start a new thread for catalog supplements ? Not sure if there are enough of them to justify a separate thread ? Marklin1960NewItems.pdf (4,860kb) downloaded 39 time(s).Kurt |

The pictures further up this thread are catalogue supplements, so I would put them in here.

1947 Catalog Supplemental Insert============================== Here are some scans of the extra 2 page insert for the 1947 official catalog. This extra insert add pages 33-36 to the official 32 page catalog from the same year. The ST800 and TP800 are both highly collectible locomotives. Unfortunately several of the ST800's from this period that I have seen today suffer from zinc pest. The 4-axle freight cars (especially the 334 silver/grey tanker) are also prized additions to any die cast collection. Enjoy. Kurt |

The first Neuheitenkatalog dealing with gauge 00 is from June 1935 and it’s the announcement for the Märklin 00 gauge itself Find the neuheitenkatalog from 1939 with SK800, TW800, T700! ( but titeled T800K) and others also including Märklin Minex and gauge 0 products) And the 1951 Neuheitenkatalog. Edited by moderator 20 October 2019 08:50:38(UTC)

Hi Kurt, Hi Paul, To my experience the Neuheitenkataloge specially for 00-products were published from 1947 on annually in early summer. (Supplementary sheets for 48 and 49). Some of these catalogues are very rare / hard to find. Especially the early 1960ties - 1960 to 1963. The prewar Neuheitenkataloge included and displayed all new Märklin products. There are some other Märklin publications showing items that were neither listed in the Neuheitenkataloge nor in the regular catalogs. Stefan

Hi Stefan, 1962 is fully impossible to find. Märklin did not publish any new items for 1962. Regards Markus

The Introduction of the Miniatur-Tischbahn is interesting - Frank Ronneburg has an excellent article on his website about that display. An original has not yet been found so a replica was made!! https://tischbahn.de/neu...chaustueck-500-von-1935/The site is in German but for anyone using Google Chrome it will offer to translate automatically, and makes a pretty good job of it. MS Edge does not yet appear to have that capability but I guess it will come. Cheers Cookee |

Hi,
It may be interesting that the rails 3600 DF and 3900 DF from the 1953 new items never appeared. A surpressor rail came in 1959 (5130).
Regards
Markus
