Hi all,
I'm looking at a BR52 on ebay for about $250. I don't know much about older locs as I just got into M*. Is this older engine a good deal? Anything a newbie should know about it before buying? Do these type of engines come up for sale often? Should I expect something like this to run as good as my new br86 on a MS? - Thanks |

250US$ for a 3793 is pretty steep. Have a look at these samples in german ebay: http://modellbau.search....12QQfromZR40QQsacatZ9074On the technical side, all Märklin BR52 models are pretty nice runners and pullers and have very good mechanics. The one your're looking at has a c90 type decoder, which is nothing special in running terms, though very strong and reliable. For smoother running, you should look at a 37xxx type of BR52, which means a 5 figure reference, starting with 37. This means it'll be digital all the same and a 60902 style decoder, much smoother and equally strong and reliable. This one is a very cool model, though quite expensive, with a Loksoundmfx installed: http://cgi.ebay.de/Maerk...0317QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemThis one is a very cool set too, one that sooner or later I'll have to get for myself: http://cgi.ebay.de/maerk...0317QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemAnother nice one, complete with nice weathering look: http://cgi.ebay.de/Maerk...0317QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemA weird one: http://cgi.ebay.de/MS-TO...0317QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemHave fun! Luis, that was an eye opener. Two identical locs on German ebay at a significant savings.
How does the running and programming of a 3793 BR52 with c90 decoder compare to a 29533 BR86 or a 33043 BR80 (the only two locs I have)? When you say smooth running I assume you mean the engine can start real slow and increase speed in small steps. My BR80 does not seem as smooth and finely controllable as the BR86.
Thanks for your help. Chris |

Upon closer examination, both 3793's on German ebay are not for sale to USA. I wonder why? |
