Telex Kupplung is not what I need and use.
So,my question is; if a loco has telex coupler is it easily manually engaged ?
Is it reliable if used manually ?
Also, if not used does it interfere with electronic components of the loco ?
In a word, can Telex Kupplung just be ignored ?

And finally, there is seemingly identical loco in 2854 "Mannesmann" set without Relex coupler.
Is that loco apart from the coupler actually the same ?

Thanks

Hi Ivan
The Telex coupling can be ignored but
- in analog operation you will still need 2 inverting pulses to change direction
- in digital (not your case I think) it can be ignored
IMO telex operation is fun

Thank you,Jean

I do not get it.
Does it mean 2 pulses for each (every) change of the direction ?
Or the same as usual change in analog operation ? One pulse for back, then another pulse for forward again.
Thank you again.

Yes. The first pulse operates the telex coupler. The second pulse changes direction.

You can easily desolder the wires to the TELEX.

The TELEX will not working but you still will need two pulses to change direction in analog.

From my point of view TELEX are something very beautiful and very useful

In these days we try to retrofit locos with TELEX...

Both Locos are basically the same loco with different road numbers [ 86-574 with relex coupler ] and the 3096 [ 86-173 ] pictured above has the Telex coupler. The Telex is a handy gadget to have and if you have one, you will find it useful. Given a choice, I would go withthe telex version, but the Mannesmann set is a nice set. I have both.

Hi Dereck

Yes they are the same with exceptions:
- a Telex coupling or resp. a Relex coupling
- a Telex inverter relay (with drum) or resp. a standard inverter relay
- possible different marklin on the loco
Conversion is possible from one type to the other the only issue being the availability of spares (you must look on the internet (ebay.de)
Search for "Marklin Telex kupplung"
Cheers

You can use the loco normally. Liek JohnJeanB says; You need to to ggive the reverse-pulse TWO TIMES each time you want to change direction.
If you only give ONE pulse, direction wont be changed, but the >TELEX will raise the loop of the couplers, disengaging the waggons.

Mechanically you might have a problem though; Depending on the age of the loco, some TELEX devices has some protruding "arms" or "horns" on the coupler, which interferes with modern close couplers.
These "arms" can be removed by cutting, sawing or filing, so that shouldnt be a huge problem either.
