Good evening, I have no idea which coaches to put behind this loco to reproduce an era 3 train. Marklin's online shop is not very helpful.
Thank you

Hi,
The model 33182 is in the pre-1920 livery.
If you treat it as a preserved engine running in era III, I believe you could run it with any era III coaches.

Kimball
HO Scale - Märklin (ep II-III and VI, C Track, digital) - 2 rail HO (Queensland Australia, UK, USA) - 3 rail OO (English Hornby Dublo) - old clockwork O gauge - Live Steam 90mm (3.1/2 inch) gauge.

That is very wise in my opinion Kimball. We are too limited if we strictly obey the rules without exception. In today's world it only makes sense for random hookups to happen as there are fewer and fewer of the old trains around. BigGrin

I think a slightly newer loco could be pulling a heritage rake of coaches or newer coaches could be running behind a surviving steam era great like the SNCF 241. In reality the old 'Merican "Run What You Brung" thing works in the world of trains too. ThumpUp

When you add heritage running into the mix you can run almost anything and be true to what was actually out on the rails, at least some of the time. Cool

Regards,
Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.

Marklin #33182 is modeled upon Bavarian S3/6 number 3673. Originally this is era I locomotive. However, in 1996 this locomotive was restored to operational condition painted in original green livery. Since then occasionally run on special excursion trip pulling various museum wagon.
Therefore you can put almost any heritage wagon behind it.
Unless if you want to model a historically correct consist of era I, then probably Marklin #42765 will be the proper set, or other Bavarian era I express coaches such as #41351/41361/41371.

Here is the photo of the 3673 on excursion trip, May 2018:

Another photo of the 3673 with another set of wagons:

Again the same locomotive was photographed pulling umbauwagen in 2011:

IIRC that loco in that colour scheme was what pulled those coaches. Marklin sponsored the refurbishment I think and then it ran that Insider Tour which covered a reasonable portion of Germany IIRC. Check the 1996 brochures for details.

[edit]
In fact, having written this I went googling and found this wagon, which I guess was available on the tour. One of the panels is the map of the tour, which does a big loop around Germany.

In 1996, Marklin arranged a tour for Insider members. The train was pulled by S3/6 no 3673 (which had just been restored).
map

In 2000, the S3/6 no 3673 was repainted to blue color, sponsored by Marklin. Here the photo from 2001:
S3/6 blue

In 2003, the same locomotive was repainted again to Rheingold's blue-cream color, sponsored by Marklin. Here the photo:
S3/6 blue-creme

I wonder; how many years does a steam locomotive need to be repainted ?
In 2011, the same locomotive was photographed back in original green livery:
S3/6 green

Good morning everyone, and thank you for you kind support :-)
While browsing on ebay for the article numbers you have supplied I also bumped into this set, 42757, it is a 20s coach arrangement. It looks like it belongs to the era of the loco so good as well for an enactment of that period on the layout. I'll keep looking though.

Since you mentioned an era III train, I reckon that you are referring to the DB class 18.4 version.

Below links are containing 1950s and 1960s photos related to the DB class 18.4. Scrolling down, you will find various passenger rolling stock hauled by said loco:

So, era III (Deutsche Bundesbahn until 1970).

Now era II (Deutsche Reichsbahn)?

Hi I have been given quite a bit of Marklin to sell for a friend who has moved overseas. In amongst it is the set of insider Coaches. Are you still looking for them?

Kind regards
Adrian
