Hello All. Can this type of Acrylic paint be used successfully on older type Faller plastics without any future peeling? Thanks in advance, Mikey Edited by user 13 August 2019 21:26:54(UTC)

I cannot relate specific experiences, but if there is adhesion problems to the plastic there are generally 2 approaches I've seen folks use: 1) Wash the model plastic parts in liquid dish detergent and water (like you would a greasy pan) before putting it all together to wash off any oils and other mold release residue. 2) Some times you may want to use a primer, which is designed to adhere to plastic better, and serve as a good base for the pigment paint layer. |

Regardless of type of acrylic paint used, I had never had issues that the paint will chip off.
As long as it’s not a 20 year old paint that has been in storage you should be fine.
Depending on the plastic and the paint itself you will have varied coverage and with normal acrylic paint you normally need a couple of coats if you want full coverage.

Thanks in advance, Mikey Hi Mike Old Faller (1955 to 1965) were also sold at the time with “water colours” in Faller catalogue. So I believe there is no problem using it Some of my kits are 50+ years old and painted with acrylic paint All is fine I never washed any faller parts Cheers Jean |

Same as above. Most plastics could do with a wash. But generally I undercoat mine once I’ve glued my building or part building Together. I then paint. Dry brush ect. I’ve never had pealing. I personally use warhammer paints and spray undercoat. |

Hello all, Thanks for all the input. I did go ahead and paint the sides of the structure using the acrylics and with good results! The kit is Faller B-99 Lindental station. I wanted to personalize it a bit and so far I went with the rose color for the top half and earth tone for the bottom. The plastic colors were the light gray/yellow as can be seen on the inside of the walls. I like it. Any thoughts? Mikey |

Hi Mike
This looks very nice and especially the Lindental station representing the "modern era" back in 1965 which I had on my first layout in 1965. Painting brings durability (I think) as unpainted kits have their colour fading with time giving after a few years an unrealistic aspect. Bravo Jean |

Bravo Jean Hi Jean, I have many kits which were built by my father back in the 60's and like you said they have faded and look plastic-like. That's why from now on all my kits will be painted. I found that they look so much nicer and I'm really not affecting their value because I checked, and there are lots of these out there. I gotta say though, This kit was a total pain in the ass to assemble. The instructions are horrible. Just some crummy pictures with circles and numbers which don't mean anything. This is the first kit I ever built where none of the parts had any numbers on them. I don't recommend this kit for a beginner (Unless you like Gray hair and big hangovers). I will post pics upon completion. Mikey |

Many of the older cheaper faller kits do not have individual numbers on the parts. Most however do have proper window glazing unlike the more modern kits. |
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer. |

WOW, probably one of the nicest B-99s displayed on the internet ! Your B-99 could be even more perfect if you add flowers on the windows like the model on the B-99 box. Marco |

Thanks guys for all the positive feedback. I must say, I was a bit nervous in thinking that I would be reprimanded for changing the colors of such a classic Faller kit. Now with my confidence restored I went ahead with my plan to rename the station. I did read that this was a fantasy structure for which there never was a prototype so here it is. Being this station will be located on one of the highest points of the layout (berg) and I am a huge fan of the show "Breaking Bad" I figured my friends would get a kick out of it. It also sounds German. Flowers in the windows? Maybe next spring I'll plant them. Mikey |

Mikey, While one can never be certain when starting a project, the results are, in principle, all that matters! And what a wonderful addition to your layout! Congratulations and a great name for the bahnhof! Jimmy |
