Hi,
The V200 can be used with almost every German passenger car of the era. It also pulled the Rheingold between Duisburg and the Dutch border in the early 1960s. in 1965 a V200 was used to the pull the special train for HRH Queen Elizabeth II visiting Germany. It consisted of saloon-wagons and at least one sleeping-car.
Regards
Markus

How about the Pike cars? Would that be prototypical if the era?

Regards Tom --- "In all of the gauges, we particularly emphasize a high level of quality, the best possible fidelity to the prototype, and absolute precision. You will see that in all of our products." (from Märklin New Items Brochure 2015, page 1) ROFLBTCUTS |

Markus The V200 was used for the re-painted (blue) Henschel-Wegmann sets in the early 1950s. One of the cars allocated for Queen Elizabeths' visit to Germany has been preserved at the DB Museum annexe in Koblenz. It is available for inspection. Kimball |

I read from Wikipedia V200 initially pulled express trains, replacing class 01, 03 and 05. By then the Pike coaches were relegated to commuter trains and seldom used as express trains. So is it ok to pull Pike coaches?

My readings indicate that the V200 diesels were designed to be multi-purpose engines but were used mostly for passenger trains . However , for several years starting about 1962 an entire secondary main line in the Schwarz wald area was operated entirely by V200 engines. However your layout in Canada and mine in Texas need not be bound by the practices of the DB which changed over the years . I operate eight trains at one time , two are passenger trains with four passenger cars each along with one TEE train which has a fixed diesel engine . I have three mixed freight trains having 10 to 12 freight cars , one unit tank car train with 9 tank cars and a unit coal train with 6 open gondolas. I have 9 steam engines and 9 diesel engines . I can operate all diesel , all steam and most commonly a mixed steam and diesel. In all diesel operation , I would likely assign my V100 for my local passenger train , one of my V160 engines for my long distance express passenger train . I would assign all three of my V200 engines to the heavy duty mixed freight trains , another V160 for the tank car train and my V60 for the coal train. Two diesels a V80 and a V160 would not be used. What this rambling says is that you should use the engine that is best suited for the job . Tex

The great thing about the fifties/sixties era is that at some point in time most configurations happened, so somewhere at sometime, the v200 probably pulled almost all the various rolling stock. So you can almost run what you like. And it was common to have a mix of types of rolling stock.

Yes, the V200 was mostly used for passenger services, but like anything, including the example you have of the Schwarz wald area, there are always exceptions and am sure on an occasion of need, something could have been swapped. I know my layout here in Texas has a "my layout, my rules" apply concept when it comes to whatever consists I construct, within reason of course. |

Hi all, The question for V200 - services reminds of a German crime film from 1971 "Kressin stoppt den Nord-Express" (Kressin stops the North-Express). Story: Some criminals attempt freeing some prisoners which are travelling in North-Express by hijacking the train - pulled by a V200. Mr Kressin is the good guy who is defeating the freeing. For V200-enthusiasts the scenes from 01:08:30 must be seen. Regards Markus
