Soldering Feeder wires to C track

Joined: 30/08/2016(UTC) Posts: 636 Location: Brussels		What is the best way to solder power feeder wires to C track lugs? Solder the wire direct to the lug, or fit the wire with a spade connector and then solder to the lug? Jabez

Joined: 06/07/2012(UTC) Posts: 1,287		Jabez, I have been soldering wire directly to lug. My routine is to do all the feeder wire this way. Strip the wire, tin the wire then solder to lug! Works well and is fast to do especially when you have hundreds of wire to add to the lugs. Michel

The lugs can be loose and need tightening before use, and over time it is possible to get corrosion between the lug and push-on connector giving problems that can be intermittent and difficult to trace. So if you are inclined to solder them, i would recommend you do.

Hello kiwiAlan, I concur with your hypothesis and experienced it first hand and must warn that it was an unexpected endeavour in frustration on my new Marklin C track layout! My recommendations would only to use the lugs on a temporary layout. Cheers! Michel

Joined: 15/10/2006(UTC) Posts: 2,311 Location: Washington, Pacific Northwest		I would solder the feeder wire directly to the spade on the track and heat-shrink the result for good measure. Do not solder the lug to the spade on the track as that makes things needlessly complex if you ever have to remove the wire, because unsoldering the lug and pulling it off of the spade will be much more heat and operationally difficult. And if if you use the lug between wire and track spade, its no more electrically conductive than without.
