I am trying to find out how to operate and take advantage of having contact tracks in a circuit.
Specifically where are you supposed to connect the other end of the cable when you want that the contact trach governs a turnout?
Regards.

Hi Frederico

There is a risk of confusion here on various types of "contact track":
- a presence detection track made by insulating one of the rails: it detects any rolling stock in the section if they have Marklin wheel sets (non-insulated)
- a slider detection track (such as 24994) which is direction dependent and can be used directly to drive a switch (while the presence detection track would risk to burn the solenoids under some circunstances).

So in short the slider operated tracks are good to make a simple automation with a MS2. It is very good for simple layouts and to get started.
The presence detection tracks are more secure but cannot drive directly a switch or a signal but need a CS3 to convert the occupancy information into orders (from the leading or trailing edge). This one is more secure because in theory, any vehicle left in the "zone" or block will prevent any train of entering it.
Cheers

Jean

You can wire the 24994 for both directions if you wish. I like circuit tracks and use them where possible. They are also easy to fit into the layout.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.
