Very sad this one. A woman is dead after being struck by a train at a level crossing in Brisbane’s east.

The 70-year-old was walking across the Kianawah Road crossing at Lindum Station in Wynnum West at about 5.10pm, when it was indicated as safe to do so... 9News understands a trolley she was wheeling became stuck, and she was struck by a train and killed.

"Someone doing the right thing at a crossing and still gets hit, tragedy, I feel for the family"

Reading the article it sounds like the lack of a well designed pedestrian crossing, or its maintenance has finally caught up with whomever is responsible for the level crossing. An avoidable tragedy.

yes, it seems strange that if a trolley gets caught while pedestrian has right of way then crossing closes for train to cross why the lady just didn't abandon the trolley and move off tracks
Like even at 70 she can't be deaf to crossing bells etc

Very sad that someone has lost her life for a trolley of shopping.

Hello Shannon,

May I please take the liberty of responding to your post.

Quite to the contrary, there are plenty of 70 y.o.'s and even much younger folk that have a severe <-> profound hearing loss that would preclude them from hearing the aural warnings well. Many folk in their 70's also have issues with vision that impair their appreciation of the visual warnings.
Also do not forget that quite a few people in their 70's may have early dementia that jades their cognition and judgement to respond to such an acute situation.

Regards and best wishes from down south BigGrin ! ,

PJ
