Joined: 18/11/2015(UTC) Posts: 220 Location: Brisbane,Australia		Hi again, Like cable drums, lots of manufacturers have transformers as loads for low wagons. I looked at the internet for a compact prototype and found this. I liked the oil reservoir as a feature. As luck would have it, I found some silicon water seals which fit inside an audio connector that look exactly like insulators. The heat fins are from transistor heatsinks I milled flat. The oil level is a piece of copper wire inside the plastic tube. Everything is screwed together. I hope Brown Boveri will forgive me for using their name. Cheers, Howard.

Hello Howard, I like your transformer (especially the oil reservoir level measure), it reminded me of one I have that has been waiting for a place on the layout these last 20yrs. Unfortunately I am not that handy in primary construction and made mine from a plastic KIBRI kit (another awaits). I had a vague idea I could use them in conjunction with the Sommerfeldt accessory bits for electric supply-to-the-overhead coming from an electrical substation. Regards, Philip

However they are all pretty special creations for so many reasons I am unable to detail. I worked for a Brisbane company in the 1980s that sold various industrial instruments. I think it was ABB-Brown Boveri had a manufacturing plant at Darra for building oil cooled transformers. So we used to supply certain parts for them. regards Kimball
