Hi all,
Second go. Typed it up and promptly closed it by mistake!Crying

Being involved in model trains allows a diversity of interests to be accommodated. I am not a rivet counter or train spotter and I forget most of the catalogue numbers.
I love the older models and cringe when I have to do some scenery. Hence my layout looks like a moonscape with European models of all description in one place.
I do, however, like how basic electronics can be applied to model trains and I have developed an interest in small machinery to fabricate items and repair worn or broken bits.
The topic "More model railway fun-Trial and error" 29.5.2017 started me on this insane quest to make loads for well wagons.
I use Hornby Dublo 3 rail wagons as they are not expensive, fairly easy to source and run well on Marklin C track.
The loads are not to any scale , just so they look acceptable.

The first load is a cable drum wagon. Most manufacturers have a version of this and I like the older style with wood slat sides.
The wood was milled round, then imitation slats milled and a s..t load of imitation round head bolts inserted.
The centre of the drum is Delrin rod and the cable is flexible electric cable. The drums sit on a brass support and are held down by a neoprene strap.
The strap is kept taut by chains and a functioning traction mechanism.

I will post the other loads as separate posts.
Cheers Howard.

Would love to bump up this post and see if anyone has a few more ideas for well wagon loads. With all the cracked Bahia cargo boxes and broken green trafos, the robust metal Marklin wagons present interesting opportunities.

Came to this thread after seeing David aka BigDaddyNZ's comment on Marco's ModelSpoorBeurs posts about well-wagons a plenty for sale. The M-users rabbit holes are the best.

In single point perspective, where do track lines meet?

"In 1998 the Deutsche Bahn had a total of 180 well wagons of 43 different types. They are used to move very large and heavy goods that would exceed the loading gauge on flat wagons. Such loads typically include: combine harvesters, generators or narrow gauge vehicles ."

I know these are by road but that's basically because Australia has next to no railway.

Or just a few new wheels being delivered, 4m diameter 1.5 metres wide.
