Moffat Sub March 17, 2018 - Duration 4 1/2 Minutes

Huge black clouds of smoke as this train starts up

A loaded BNSF Sand Train headed Westbound on the Moffat Sub from Denver, it had to wait in the Tolland Siding for the Eastbound Winter Park Express and Phippsburg Local.

After the tunnel vented dispatcher gave then a green signal and all 5 locomotives, including 3 SD70Ace on the front and an ES44 and SD70Mac on the rear, started just about 12,000 tones (80 cars) up the 2% grade toward the summit inside the Moffat Tunnel.

From the comments:

"That's kind of a Light train. Here i Canada we run trains over the rocks at 17,000 tons."
"Impressive, until you stop and think that a big boy could have done it single handed"
