Hello,

Just bought an analogue Ae6/6 3338 without manual. Can someone please provide a link to the 3338 manual. In Märklin website just got the exploded view with the parts list.

Miguel

Below are some images of the just arrived 3338. It arived with one lamp damaged but was replaced and so it is now full functioning. It has good running in analague (it is analogue). Later I will convert it to digital but didn't decide for teh decoder. At the moment I have here only an old 6080, but I think I will go to one of the most recent like LPv4 M4 or MLD3.

What do you think are the stains in the chassis? Can they be removed easily? (I don't think so, but as i don't know what they are, it is better to ask).

That looks to me like the paint has come off due to early stages of the dreaded zincpest. But that is just what I can make out from enlarging the picture.

I'm happy to defer to anyone else who has one of these and seen a similar problem and feels I'm wrong.

I found one manual on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm...-3636-3338/152985158360?

I have a 3638 in my collection and may have the manual in digital. Let me check and get back to you.

I have not noticed any metal issues with my model.

Two things that I intend to modify are the front windows. I have a set of transparent (not green tinted) window parts from the 37347 type model.
The other thing that I already changed was to install a newer set of pantographs (grey paint) with slightly narrower wipers from the 37360 version.

Thanks for your reply.
What I see seems really the paint came off where we the "stains".
This is a one time series from 1991. I didn't know it could happen to not so old locomotives.

I don't know much about zincpest. I hope this 3338 hasn't it, but of course now I think there is a considerable probability that it has it.
Can you tell me please if zincpest may spread to other parts attached to the chassis, like for example the body?

Miguel

Thanks Mike. If you find the manual and can make a pdf with it, i would apreciate a lot.

The green of the windows is a bit odd. I didn't see it in other Märklin models, although I don't dislike it. Just maybe a bit far from the real thing.

The pantographs of the 37360 look indeed better. That was a good move!

While I still have a bit hope that the problem is just with the paint, I found this video about zincpest and there it is said that it may affect attached parts too.

For a simple digital conversion I converted this loco #3338 with a Lokpilot decoder & correct Swiss light change over.

Hi Miguel,

This is the manual for 3338:

ba-3338-62339-tr-0291.pdf (2,838kb) downloaded 33 time(s).

No idea where the stains come from. Is there something similar inside the body? It is defiantly no Zinc-Pest. That looks different.

Regards

Markus

Hi Markus,

Thanks a lot for the manual and also for your comments on the strains.

Inside the body of the loco all looks perfect, no strains at all. Outside the body the only thing is not perfect: is something that is almost not visible. It can be seen in the second photo I posted, specially when zoomed below the horizontal silver line and below the first side window on the left. It is a small relief. It can be felt by touch but not easy to see... If it doesn't go worse, I am ok with it as it is almost not visible.

Regards,
Miguel
