Dear fellow enthusiasts, and thanks for me joining the Forum!
After 25 years or so, I am ready to re-enter the world of model railroading. Just as I left the hobby and sold my entire stuff back in early 90’s I managed to run some trains fully automatic by programming in an original Maerklin software that apparently was using BASIC as programming language. It was in German (which is OK for me). I think also it operated from DOS. I have now obtained the 6051 Interface, i have a PC with COM- and LPT-ports, and all the rest that i need.

I found line programming to be interesting, and as new generations are growing up, I think it could be fun to try this again.

Can anyone help me with obtaining this software? Lying around on a 3,5” disk, ready to be copied and mailed to me?

Thanks,
Svein, NORWAY

Any software on 3,5" diskettes will most likely not be readable. The magnetic media used in computer diskettes was not designed to last 25+ years. I have had floppies that are less than 10 years old, not readable. Sure some of the sectors on the diskette are OK, but to have all 100% of the sectors that contain the index of the diskette and the program area is highly unlikely. Sorry, you will need a copy from a hard disk, were the original owner has moved the data forward to successive hard drive upgrades. I have in general purchase new hard drives every 5 to 6 years and transferred my old data forward. I have been doing this since about 1985. Unfortunately my entire setup up until about 6 weeks ago was 100% analog. I'm now in the process of converting everything to digital controlled with a CS3.

A recent purchase from Keesmarklin on eBay included a bonus copy of a dutch Marklin magazine from the 1990s. Perhaps this seller can dig up some copies which might have some information that could be of use. My other recommendation would be to reach out to the daughter of Dr Tom Catherall, who was Marklin's digital expert in the USA at that time. She may still have the software or know who she may have given/sold it to.

I have printouts of the sample Basic code that Märklin provided to me ca. 1988 for the 6050 interface. (Same as 6051)

I probably also have my DOS based software I wrote in 1989 (I called it MDOS - Märklin Digital Operating System) and I wrote it in Turbo Pascal, but it was hard coded to work on the demo layout I built in 1989 to demonstrate using a PC in one's hobby at the 1989 Durban University Winterfest, so it would be of little use to anyone.

Let me know if you would like the pages of Basic code scanned....

did you check out TPL at rjftrains.com?
I first ran it in Windows 3.1 in the 90s - I now run it in windows 7
it uses the 6050 - i also have the 6023 that generates ASCII code from its operation.
Robert Frauenfeld does not support the program any longer but may still let you have a copy, - worth trying ....

Hi Svein

Welcome to the forum.
I am a Rocrail user and recently I had to write a program in XML (some form of interpreted language with IF, WHILE, ELSE, LOOP, SLEEP, etc and capable of driving locos, switches, decouplers, etc. I am not trying to sell anything but I share with you the fun of programming at no cost.
Below is a sample of XML I wrote for my marshalling yard. Sorry the comments are in German as I am learning the language. The video of the result is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVEqKjZy7Tk
Have fun and don't hesitate to ring a bell for us to help
Cheers

Jean
