I understand the two wires to the track but why do they then terminate in a black box that then has the power wires to the controller. Makes hiding wires difficult. Sorry my first Z gauge layout. Rail connectors aargh too but I have it all mostly working

That piece is for radio/TV interference suppression. My current layout has two of these.that will be buried under a removable mountain so they'll be out sight. |

My current layout has two of these.that will be buried under a removable mountain so they'll be out sight. I also believe he is referring to the connection track, see Marklin 8590 for a picture. There is an RF interference component built into to this piece (underneath). As Bahner suggested: hide the track connector in a mountain. The only other option is soldering wires directly to the track or joiners (a little fiddly in Z scale). Direct connection does not give any RF interference protection, but is that really still an issue in today's digital TV and Radio age? Cheers, Harold.
