Hi gents,

I came across a baffling problem a while back. The story:

I have assigned the Lenz LS150 decoders for my solenoid turnouts in the range of DCC addresses 500-530. The decoders are 6 port and there are 5 of them.
For some reason the 2nd decoder with assigned addresses 507-512 would not register receiving commands for addresses 510,511,512.
I know this because the decoder has a LED which blinks when it receives a command - and it does not blink on those addresses.
More so, after first operation on address 508 and 509 they would not activate again after a couple of uses.

I will add that I have had no problems with the other 4 LS150 decoders assigned addresses in the surrounding ranges (500-506 and 513-530)

I thought the decoder faulty so I ended up buying another one which I just tested and found it behaved EXACTLY the same when assigned that address range (507-512)

So I re-programmed the decoder to a different address range (407 - 412) and all ports work flawlessly.
I then did the same with the original 'faulty' decoder and with range 407-412 it also worked flawlessly with all ports.

This leads me to believe the Central Station 2 may not be sending the command on the 510-512 addresses and intermittently with 508/509. Perhaps they are reserved?
The other possibility is some sort of design issue with the decoder that it is incapable of receiving commands on those particular addresses.

If someone with a CS2 could test for me with another DCC decoder and see if it works reliably on those addresses to rule out the CS2?
Otherwise I will contact Lenz and see what they say.

The CS2 is certainly able to publish commands to the 509-512 range.
Have you actually tried a starting address of 509 instead of 507

I would be pointing fingers at the decoder logic.
Specifically because your starting address of 507/508 is actually static address box#31 and the 509-512 is box#32

In CV terminology you are crossing a boundary where CV9 bumps from 1 to 2 and CV1 jumps from 63 to 0
I would be interested to know if you have a similar issue at the 256 (your start = 251) and 1024 (your start 1019)

Hi Peter,

thanks for your reply. I had resigned myself to not getting any replies and since re-programmed all my LS150 decoders into the 401-430 range instead of 501-530 range.

Since changing those addresses everything is working OK as previously tested - and no issues with any other addresses in that range.

Without investigating further I think your reasoning is sound and could be the cause, though there is nothing in the manual about avoiding such a situation regarding CV's.
