Hi David, I got it down to this: Sub-Total: 462,17EUR German Post - Economy Shipping Dispatch to AUS. The freight costs are only estimates due to missing weight of many items: 22,93EUR net: 485,10EUR Total: 485,10EUR Total in EUR: 485,10EUR This was other postal option: German Post - Primary Shipping German Post - Primary Shipping ( Dispatch to AUS. The freight costs are only estimates due to missing weight of many items) 38,13EUR select But I am still dithering on whether to buy or not. Lot of $$$ for something that doesn't fit with anything on my layout other that being a nice looking loco. |

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time. |

That's what makes it a surprise loco: advertising starts when the container in C* is ready to be shipped. Prevents items from shipping one or two years after the initially communicated delivery date... Only few customers will get this loco with a "Made in..." sticker. I think after delivery some forum members will tell us which country/region is shown on the sticker. Surprise, surprise... |

I agree Jean - my Märklin 29241 runs perfectly everywhere on my layout and it is such a beauty. I was lucky to have decided quickly or I would never have had any chance of getting one. This is an interesting model of an interesting loco but the Märklin 39242 lacks all of the beauty of the original machine, at least to me it does. I know that many people have been hoping for other versions of the SNCF 241, but Märklin taking the next sequential number for this loco makes me rethink that. Perhaps that tiny run of the 241.A.65 will be it for Märklin, for some unimaginable reason. I find this discussion of min radius interesting. I have r2/r3 curves so is no issue for me right now, but I am considering a new layout that will have r1 curves in a few places. So I am concerned about my 241 being able to continously run on the new proposed layout. As people have been stating, the 241 runs fine over 'intermittent' r1 curves. So I wonder if Marklin is, rightly so, assuming the worst case scenario, and that would be a layout consisting of a circle or figure 8 of r1 curves? An interesting test would be to monitor the current draw of the loco on r1 vs r2/r3 circle of track. I suspect the draw would be greater on r1 due to increased drag, and if run ''continuosly' on r1 curves, then it may overheat eventually? Might have to try that test one day. Its encouraging to hear that it runs ok on r1 at all, Cheers, |

Hi, My layout is on limited space so it includes quite a lot of R1 curves in hidden places (more than 60% of the main itinerary). So this kind of loco (the 39241 and 39242-presumably) are working much better on R1 than some other Märklin locos and NOT intermittently. I checked very carefully the driving wheels when "bent" by R1 because I did not want to damage my best loco (39241). There is no effort nor jamming risks between rods and other parts of the loco when turning under R1. Among all my Märklin loco I had some difficulties with the BR 45 (37450) and the BR 41 (from the set 2995) when using R1. Both had no curve restrictions indicated by Märklin. In both cases the difficulties were coming from the coupling rod (forcing on the driving wheel when in R1 curve). Very long time ago (1960) my first layout included "industrial" tracks (5120 tracks) officially to reserve to short locomotives and cars. Not a single Märkjlin car or locomotive in my entire collection gave me problems on 2 conditions: no gradient and no conter-curve arrangements. It is a tradition by Märklin to design the "rail handling" for kids Cheers Jean |

See here mine in action on R1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5xxW5V25TICheers Jean Put my 39241 on the track for the first time today having seen many posts about the 39241 running on R1 curves, sadly my K-track R1 curves are not capable of running the 39241. I am going from straight flex track to R1, then back to straight, no opposite curves back to back, the 39241 will navigate some R1 on the layout but on about 50% of the R1, it will derail the 2nd small wheels from the front truck. The large 4 driving wheels seem to handle R1 OK. I will investigate why some R1 are fine and some are not, at this point I would not claim that the 39241 or 39242 will navigate R1 K-track or M-track without issue. Also checked all the packaging of the 39241, no stickers that it was "Made in China", anywhere, box, papers, any packaging.

When you mean r1 k track. Do you mean the track radius 2 which is 36.5 radius (c track radius 1, 36 radius) or radius 1 k track which is very tight. More of an industrial radius, at 29.4?. I’ve seen the sncf version running on r2 k track? Thanks Dan |

Nice loco, just got the Maerklin version from a US dealer (AJC), lots of functions, well built.
But...I will say that I am a little annoyed with Maerklin about not being explicit about the manufacturing origin of these products. Had I known the origin of this item I would not have bought it because of the human rights, environmental, social and political issues surrounding the country of origin.
I think this is blatant manufacturers dishonesty towards the consumer.
I have the Trix version, bought from a Canadian dealer (Euro Rail out of British Columbia), and now the Maerklin version out of USA (AJC out of Texas). Canadian version not marked...US version marked, made in China.
Canada largely follows US point of origin rules... so I am a little mystified. |
