One truly great and faithful layout is the work of life by Peter Frey He has been working since the end of 1978 to the very end of his life in 2012. Mr. Frey also worked on this station as a dispatcher The link is the address of the association that has restored that great layout, there is more information about it http://www.stellwerk-s.de/

Its an amazing undertaking to model the entire station area and yard so fully and accurately. The only complaint some who have visited it in person, is its not so much a model rail layout as a model of the station, in that the number of moving/operational trains in the station and yard is highly limited; a lot of it just sits around. But man, oh man, what one could play with if having to manage inbound/outbound traffic. And now its a historical record of the "way it used to be" as Stuttgart-21 is progressing along and much of the traffic will disappear underground along the orthogonally running through-station lines, replacing most of the head-station capacity, and converting much of the surface space for development. |

The new central station of Stuttgart will be a through-station completly under the earth. When it is finished the old area of the head station will be renaturalized. The area will be replanned for new buildings an parks where at the moment still are running trains. Not only much traffic, all train traffic will disappear under the earth. Only the above ground main building of the central station - the so called Bonatzbau - will remain. https://www.youtube.com/...inue=4&v=StfqRMXjGmk

Here I found more information about the complete project in English. http://www.bahnprojekt-stuttgart-ulm.de/en/As you see it is not only the central station in Stuttgart itself which is built brandnew. It is a huge project with 4 new railway stations, new high speed tracks to Ulm, etc., etc.. The Märklin city Goeppingen will be off from the ICE - long distance fast trains.

Yes, and archived here now! We can compare it to the new Stuttgart station under construction. I hope someone is already building that as well!

I visited the layout in Herrenberg a couple of years ago, pre-pandemic. It's in a side room of a pub so you can have a beer and lunch while you are there! The nice lady behind the bar gave me a personal conducted tour, in German, during a quiet half hour when the bar customers were served and satisfied. I had the layout entirely to myself. It's well worth the visit, not far from Stuttgart. There's a few bits of second hand model railway stuff to buy too.
