I do not own any locomotives that can raise and lower their pantographs.
I was wondering how such operations are assigned to function keys.
Is there one Fn to raise a pantograph and another to lower it? or When the function is switched on, it is raised and off, brings it back down? or are both implementations out there?
I assume that whatever approach is used, it is all duplicated for front and rear pantographs?
Eg F5 raises and lowers font pantograph, F6 raises and lowers rear pantograph or Eg F5 = front up, F6 = front down, F7 rear up, F8 rear down

I have the 37579 BR 103. From what I recall, there were two function keys, one to activate panto 1 and the second to activate panto 2. Press it once for up and again for down. You can check the instructions at maerklin.de, search for model number and then select Anleitung

I found 39170 which suggests one button per pantograph I am not sure which locos have pantograph functionality and there may be decoders from other manufacturers that do things differently. |

I have the Märklin 39974 and f4 is raises and lowers pantograph.

I have a somewhat more elaborate (and realistic) pantographs' operation on my REE SNCF CC 7121 electric
Each pantograph is assigned a function key so one can raise one or the other selectively There is another function key to have both pantographs up while the loco is standing , with the front pantographs lowering after the engine has reached a certain speed. This is proptotypical for locos operating under 1500v DC (historical system in France) as the starting current is too high to be carried by one pantograph alone.
Then there is also an automatic pantograph change as the loco changes direction...and it's all combined with the arcing noise produced when the pantograph raises and hits the overhead wire.

I have the 39970 and it uses one function for the pantograph. On= raise Off=lower.
I had a problem when the pantograph got stuck in the lower position when the function was on... I had to turn on and off the function to make it work again. I don't want to try that again. I thought the pieze motor was gonna pull the string attached to the pantograph. |

That is very interesting and nice, but of course I would simply implement that in the control software, then it would work for any loco that had independent pantograph control! I already have code to issue the shunting 'toot' sound if the direction of the loco is changed, (even if a human does it on the Intellibox!), and before a loco departs. (plus hiss, etc). I could easily add code to switch the pantographs around too. I could also have both up initially and lower the leading one at speed. (What is the threshold speed?) Nice info! |

If that happens again try this: isolate the slider on some paper switch the function ON. push it off the paper switch function OFF |

Wouldn't know for sure what the threshold would be, but a rough guess is probably 15 to 20 km/h But it's cool anyway. |
