Hi there you all!

Id' like to link here a site that I've created as a part of my Märklin-hobby. So, introducing now the "Classic Märklin Coach Database"! It's intended to be a site for collectors, hobbyists and other interested ones to gain easily accessible information about the classic Märklin tin-plate coaches, and this time in English language since so much of the information available currently is German-only.

--> Classic Märklin Coach Database

I myself am a collector of vintage Märklin mainly from the 1960's period of analog locomotives and metal coaches. I am particularly interested in the classic range of 24cm tin-plate coaches Märklin offered for many decades starting from the 1950's, and decided to start building up this database to both showcase my collection and as a means of sharing the information I have obtained during my collecting journey. My other motivation was to do my part in providing other non-German speaking collectors information in the English language, as a vast majority of Märklin-related information and sources, such as the fantastic Koll's Katalog is only available in German.

Disclaimer: I don't make any monetary or any other kind of profit whatsoever from this site, so this is not an advertisement as such. The site is after all just a normal blogger-page that I've created with my google-account. All the information available including the photographs taken are free-to-use for your own purposes, if you so wish. My sole intention is to share my collecting passion with you guys and do my small part in helping to grow this hobby. I've been building a database of my own for some time and basically just thought that there's no reason I should just keep this to myself if it can benefit others too! I hope you understand Smile

PS: The site is not yet, and probably never will be, completely finished! I'm working on adding to it every now and then. Please, if you find any mistakes or have new information, leave your comment and I will greatly appreciate it!

Wow this is perfect for me. I just today received my 1st tin-plate coaches, 4024, 4027 and 4032. All purchased on eBay.
I plan to run them with my BR10. 37080.
Quick questions:
If I want to install lights how do I open the the coaches? Remove the black pieces surrounding the doors on the end of the coaches?
What lighting kit do I purchase?
Thanks
Steve

On tinplate coaches you just pull the roof off.

For your coaches the correct lighting kits are 2 X 7077 with 7198 pickup shoe. You can use one pickup shoe for several coaches by threading the connector wire through the end doors into the next coach.

he has the 4032 which I think is the coach with the tail lights, so may not need a pickup shoe, just connect between the coaches.

Thanks for the prompt replies. I am pleased with my tin-plate purchases. The coaches are in good shape, look nice and run well. I think the made in West Germany stamping on the bottom is pretty neat. These coaches are noticeably shorter than their newer counterparts. I could see how this might bother some folks. But my track set up is not large so in some ways the shorter length is a benefit for me.
My 4032 coach does have a pick up shoe, tail lights and interior lighting, working intermittently. So I have a little tinkering to get that straightened out.
Read through Classic Coach web site last night very well done, informative and interesting.
Thanks again
Steve

Indeed the Tin Plate coaches are only 24 cm long. It is a scale of 1:110 to the original coaches, which had a lenght of 26,4 meters. I bought last year the Tin Plate coaches of the Rheingold

https://www.maerklin.de/...e/details/article/40850/

and all coaches have a lenght of 24 cm too.

Märklin has very different lenghts and scales for its model coaches. Beside the scale 1:110, you find 1:100, 1:93,5 and 1:87.

May be a website of interest to you, even it is in German, about Märklin Blechwagen (= Tin Plate).

Thank you for all supportive comments! Glad that you find my page interesting.
I don't like all the too many "not in collection yet" pictures myself, but I only want to use ones I've taken myself and want them to look uniform with the others.
...and there's of course something to be done about the "not in collection yet" issue, I wonder what it might be ;)

Some new updates since the introduction:

- Added the remaining international railways to the database
- Added a 'Special Models' -section to the database
- Several new coach numbers added
- Product Number list & collector's information updated
- Added more consistency in coach descriptions
- Missing photo in DSG-section fixed
- Fixed spelling errors and other accidentally written misinformation

But most importantly, I decided to start adding version information too! Better now than later, I guess. Currently it's only done for the short coaches and most D-Zug coaches, but I'll get there with all of them!

Thanks for a great source of information

Here's a question for the experts...

...does the elusive 4063 have a different finish to its wheels? Are they supposed to be a semi-shiny bare metal rather than the usual black?
