Has anyone ever used vinegar to clean their tracks? It's cheap, natural and safe, with no noxious fumes. While I don't know for sure, I don't think it would affect plastic sleepers. It's certainly brilliant (pun not intended) for cleaning stainless steel cookware.
The only reservation I have is that it might leave a residue. |

Hi Gary,
I would be hesitant to use acetic acid (vinegar) on my track. The metal is nickel-silver and you may etch or eventually "eat" away the metal. It also may attack the styrene copolymer that the sleepers are made of. Vinegar may work well on stainless steel which is fairly inert to weak acids such as acetic. If you want to use a cleaning liquid I recommend using TRIX Item # 66624 Liquid Rail Cleaner. It is not extremely expensive and will not damage your track or sleepers. |

Hi Maurice and thanks again. What you say makes sense, so I'll stick with the true and tried cleanig fluids. |
