I am curious why it appears that the Marklin M Track outer rails show much more signs of rust than the center rail studs or the track bed.

What is the track bed, center rails, and outer rails made from that seem to make the outside rails more prone to rust than the other parts of the track?

Most trains have many more wheels than sliders.
