I have a large Marklin digital layout. My 10 trains 🚂 are all digital and the track layout is connected to a Marklin 6021 Controller, a Marklin 6015 Booster and two Marklin 6001 transformers.

Presently, all my track switches and turn signals (Marklin 7039s) are connected to a Marklin 6627 analog transformer. They work fine, except the lights on my track switches on my digital layout won’t turn ON unless I do the following.

I need to get power in order to turn on my track switch lights from my Marklin 6627 analog transformer. I do that by connecting it from my brown plug on the transformer that support light accessories into 2 of my old track switches. I have few old Marklin 5119 switches that has a female connector in front of the 2 blue wires and the yellow one. When I plug the brown wire into that port, all my track switch lights turn on.

However, I believe the right way would be to connect all my track switches and turn signals into my Marklin 6001s that support my digital trains, but I don’t want to take any power away from my digital trains. I have 32 track switches and 19 Marklin 7039 turn signals.

So, my question is could I be permanently damaging anything by plugging the brown wire from an analog transformer into an old Marklin 5119 track switch that my digital trains are running on. It doesn’t appear that way, everything seems to be working fine.

Finally, what was that female port on the old Marklin 5119 track switch used for? All my newer switches doesn’t have one?

The digital track signal comes from the 6021, which should be connected to the brown and yellow terminals of one of the 6001 transformers. The transformer AFAIR has a second set of brown and yellow terminals, which can be connected to the wires needed to connect the ground for switches and signals and the live needed for the lighting of those devices.
You could equally use the brown and yellow leads from another transformer, such as your 6627. In this case, you need to make sure that your transformer is in phase with the 6001s and ensure that no voltage from the 6627 (or any other power source) feeds into the output terminals of the 6021s.

As far as the socket on the 5119 track. Most older Maerklin tracks had a socket where devices could be connected to the brown (return) lead. On newer track (1970s/80s) these sockets were only kept on certain contact tracks.

You say you have 10 trains. I don't know how many of them are running at the same time. If you are running 2, and the rest are stationary, even with lights on, you should be ok with your current setup. If running all 10 at the same time, you might want to increase the number of boosters. You could also consider additional controllers so that more than one train can be accessed at once.

Connecting the brown connector of the transformer used for turnouts with the brown connector of the 6021 is the right way. This is what you did by connecting the 6027 to the 5119 track and all lights started shining.

This is the right way not just for the 6021, but also for MS1, MS2, CS1, CS2, CS3, ECoS.

And it makes no difference whether or not the transformers are in phase.

Tom

Thank you so much for your reply. You explaination really helped me out.

Also, I forgot to mention I had additional controllers. I have 7 Marklin 6036’s and 1 Marklin 6040 keyboard. But I rarely run more than 4 trains at the same time.
